Tell that to a group of kids trying to "out-cool" each other. We may not like it, but hiding from reality helps no one.

It's great to be able to see the world thru rose colored glasses but if you think this young lady is never going to hear racial comments, you, my friend, have life and BS confused.

NISD didn't always have their finals after winter break. Way back when in the late 90s and early 2000s we had them right before. It switched shortly after my sister started at Clark when they switched. From my understanding it was to equalize the days in the semesters as the spring was several weeks shorter. (side note I'm not sure why this almost 10 year old thread was bumped).

NISD and NEISD schools used to start mid August, and now they start late August. When they started mid-August it was easier to complete the semester and have exams before Christmas.

I don't understand it though, growing up we started school after Labor Day and the 2nd quarter/1st semester ended at the holiday break. When we came back after New Years it was a new semester. How is there not enough time to test before the break now?

All that said, it almost sounds like Italian universities. I don't remember all the specifics, just that my friends had to study over the Summer to be ready for exams at the start of the school year.

Seems to me like it makes a lot more sense to take finals after the Christmas and New Year holidays than right before them. After is the way we did it in my high school 30-some years ago and I don't remember it being a problem.

Switching semesters in January also helps equalize the length of the semesters. Otherwise, school would have to start in July!

Back to the original topic. For me, the biggest downside of NISD would be dealing with its growth and the constant redrawing of school boundaries that they do there to accommodate that growth.

I'm sorry for the confusion, I looked back at what i''d posted and I meant to refer to all the high schools in Northside. Thank you for commenting and helping me see that!
