I somehow survived four years in Texas with no front license plate. Never got a second glance from the police as far as I could tell.

We moved to Illinois four years ago and found the law was the same here. Front plate required, but enforcement seemed spotty at best. I kept the new plate off for a while, until a friend of mine got a $50 ticket while his car was parked downtown. That's a bitter pill to swallow for a little vanity, so I finally gave in. I sleep much better at night now.

Whoever had my car before did a crappy job drilling holes in my front bumper. Not even, or level. Just straight up hoodwrench.

I keep my Oklahoma plates just for that reason. I don't want a front plate.

I got a ticket for no front plate, when I was pulled over for speeding and failure to signal a couple years back. I had Minella take care of that ticket for me. If you followed Minella over the last couple of weeks, I'm lucky I stayed on top of it...

I still won't put that front plate on. I have it in my glove compartment. Not that I would pull it out and show the officer the the worn wire ties that must have came loose earlier, so I had to remove it because I didn't want to be a danger to others on the road with a plate that could fly off at any time...

If I had to, I would put screws facing upwards from the bottom, and bend the plate so it would be nothing more than a skid plate for the front of my car. There are plenty of places on the front of a vehicle that has a curve which goes under and on that area you put the plate, screw it in at a 90 degree angle, perpendicular to the car, and then bend it vertical, thereby not damaging the cosmetic appearance of the car.

1. The "TX Hwy dept" does not write the law, the Legislature does.
2. The "TX Hwy dept" does not enforce the law (i.e. fine someone), DPS or other police agencies and the courts do.

There, how was that?

i got a ticket for that reason, i was pretty mad and think its a silly law. but hey laws are mad for certain reasons, some of the pettiest laws caught a bunch of fugitives. espcially the liscense light law, so many criminal and drug traffickers have been caught because of that law.

question.... this is the first time i've taken my car to be inspected. Will it pass inspection without the front license plate? Or do I need to go and get the front one?
