Default How is the job market in San Antonio?

Are there jobs there? Are there top companies that are still good to work for in this market? Are there any companies that come to mind to stay away from?

I know a few of the companies in our direct area are hiring; however they're sticking to temp positions. No benefits, retirement, etc.

I see hiring signs in front of MANY restaurants/retail stores.

I know USAA hired a bunch just a month or so ago.

What industry are you in?

The job market here is better than most other cities, but has started to slow.

OK, I needed to be more specific. I am not in the job market. DH is looking at a position there...sounds good, but we don't know anything about the area. This would not be a major career change, but it would be a major move for us. So I was wondering what the market was like there. For example, if this were to happen and then the company went bust, would there be other opportunities available? I mean are there a lot of major companies like banks, etc. Are the banks holding their own? I know it's hard to answer without knowing more details, but I can't be more specific at this time.

There are no guarantees with his company nor would there be any guarantees at another company. So I am trying to get a feel for how San Antonio is doing as a whole.

Are banks stable there right now? Is the real estate market like a lot of the country or is it more (or less) stable? Are lots of local stores/restaurants closing?

Under normal circumstances, it would be easy to say go for a job that "seems" like a better opportunity, but in this day and age, all bets are off.

Thanks for all of your replies.

Do you consider these major players in SA? Are they stable (as stable as anyone can predict)?

I think USAA and Valero are the top employers in town, next to the government. Neither are going anywhere.

Frost Bank is based in Texas.

Moderator cut: orphaned

I know of some large aerospace companies out there who seem to have a smaller presence in San Antonio. However, I'm not sure how many of them are hiring at the moment.
