i'm happy to see one of my favorites (bobby j's) on the 'best of the rest' list, and we are going to have to try the lord's kitchen one of these days! That monster burger sounds like...well, a monster!

Cheers! M2

....Good article...

My all time favorite is Joe's on Blanco Road.

First ate a burger there in the early 60s.
Fifty years later, still excellent.

Last time I went in, as usual, I ordered one of everything on the menu.
Burger, bag of chips, and a sodie pop.
Actually, there is no menu.

When I was done, I realized all I had on me was a hundred dollar bill.
Phyllis did not have change,
and she said - that's all right honey, pay me next time you come in.

Then I remembered I had some change in my pocket.
That covered it, somethin like $2.75.

Next time I went in, I just left a ten on the counter to cover a double tip.

I've been to Timbo's a few times for take-out and they are always very solid. On my burger card they would be a B to B+. They normally have a good crowd in there with lots of families enjoying their food. You can't go wrong going there.

Wake me up when it's mentioned in this thread. That's all that matters.
I adore Five Guys. I like mine with grilled mushrooms and cheese. Delicious.

Went by there today for lunch, and all of the 5-6 stools were taken,
and there were 5-6 people taking up all of the standing room.

So we went up the road to Madrids.
It was OK, but I do not understand how they make all the Top Ten Lists.

I read in a fairly recent saCurrent review that she stays open till she runs out of meat, and don't talk politics with her! LOL she sounds like a character.

And I tend to agree with your comment about Chris Madrid's. They are really not the greatest in town. Not bad, really, but just not good enough to have everyone so ga-ga for them.

ETA--wow, time flies....this is from Sept. '08.

SA Current - FOOD & DRINK: Legend: Joe’s Hamburger Place
The Texas Burger Guy, who has actual criteria by which he rates burgers, ranks Chris Madrid's #3 in the state out around 40 places he's tried. The San Antonio Burger Bloggers rank CM's #1 out of 40 they've tried around town. Not to mention just the sheer popularity of the place (there must be a reason other than hype, wouldn't you agree?). So, while you are certainly entitled to your opinion, you are definitely in the minority saying it's "not the greatest in town". It most certainly IS the best burger in San Antonio.
