anyone remember that tv show on public access channel 20, called "Rock The World" where they had a kid doing interviews w/rockstars? he would always end his interview with "whats your favorite cartoon"

did anyone tape any of those episodes? I had taped their footage of the metallica concert from the convention center arena, but I've been going crazy trying to find it.

Hello, My name is Joey, I was the host of the show "Rock the World." I started hosting the show when I was 9 years old; the first show we did was Carlos Santana. That was the episode where he gave me an autographed guitar. We ended up covering damn near every major musician that came to San Antonio. I actually never wanted to do the show, as I was very shy. It was always forced upon me by my father, who was an abusive scumbag. He did it to live vicariously through me and for many years he wouldn't even refer to himself by his own name; he was "Joey's dad from Rock the World." It was obvious in some of the show footage how unhappy I was. When the show was on, I had to go to another room because I couldn't stand seeing myself on television. I loathed getting recognized whenever I went anywhere, and to this day I am very reclusive. I also started playing drums when I was 6 years old, and of course he exploited that as well. He would stand over me with a belt when I would practice playing and I would get hit when I didn't play to his satisfaction. He ended up pawning my drum set piece by piece to support his cocaine addiction. I would also receive beatings when I let him know that I didn't want to do the show as well. It actually brought him joy to see me suffer, physically and psychologically. We never made any money while the show was on public access as we weren't able to sell commercial time. It wasn't until he eventually moved the show from public access to channel 26, when he was able to sell commercial time and make money. He made thousands of dollars doing that, of which I received absolutely nothing. All of that money went up his nose in the form of cocaine. It wasn't until I was about 16 years old and was able to physically defend myself that we stopped doing the show. He ended up keeping all the video tapes with all the interviews and performances that we acquired over the years. The last time I saw my father was in 2002; I let him stay with me at my apartment near Medical Center and when he finally left, he stole my rent money. The last I heard from him was in early 2009 when the police came to my mother's house looking for him. He was wanted for raping a 5 year old boy. When he was originally arrested for that heinous crime, he gave the authorities my name and social security number. That should give you an idea of what a complete lowlife he is. They eventually caught him, and he's serving time in California for what he did. He had a tendency of ruining everybody's life with which he came in contact. We all know how well they treat child sex offenders in prison; I just hope he's getting what he deserves in there in the form of aggressive jail rape. I know that sounds pretty bitter and cold blooded, but if anyone deserves that kind of treatment, he does. I'm seriously considering writing a book describing the truth behind Rock the World. I want the whole world to know what kind of a person he is. Nothing would shame him more then letting everyone know the kind of person he is and why he's currently serving prison time. Although doing the show was extremely traumatizing to me, there were actually some good parts about it. I got to meet a lot of celebrities and other really cool folks. I just wish they knew what was really going on at home behind the scenes when the camera was off. If you'd like more information about this, feel free to contact me. I'm just kind of surprised that anyone still remembers the show. Thank you for your time, Tony. -Joey

Wow. I would occasionally see that show on public access. What a truly sad story.

If you really are the guy involved (sorry; I'm always skeptical of these things), I hope you can move on from such a tragic childhood. Write your book - it will probably be quite therapeutic for you.

Best of luck.

Joey,

I remember your show because we watched it regularly to see what was going on in the Alamo city every week. I even met you in person once while you were covering the Legendary Pink Dots show at the Cameo theater in 1990 I believe. I am so very sorry to here all of this as I had absolutely no idea what you were going through. I share many aspects of your upbringing and have a pretty good idea what you are dealing with today if you are suffering with the same PTSD symptoms that I am. Personally, I think you should write the book and make more people aware of what it is like to grow up in abuse in various forms and traumatizing fear. Feel free to reach out to me if you ever want to talk. [mod]Contact by Direct Message (DM) only[/mod] God bless you and by all means please take care of yourself.
