Question Children's Murals - Recommendations

(I searched, but I didnt find anything but forgive me if something like this already exists.)

I want to have my kids' rooms painted with a mural or theme. Does anyone know someone or has used someone personally who does this?

I have two kids who each have their own room. I have a little girl, so I am looking for something kind of simple and bright. My son on on the other hand will probably want some kind of theme for his room.

Any suggestions I would really appreciate them! Thanks so much in advance!

Haven't had anything done personally but I have seen people post their children's mural painting services on Craigslist - search for "mural" I believe. They usually post their website which has galleries or they post images to the ad.

I've painted my kids' room in our last 2 homes, so I can definitely give you tips if you want.

When my twins were born, I painted an outdoor theme on their walls. A tree, flowers from the floor, birds, and clouds on the ceiling.

In this home, my son has an underwater scene. The walls were already light blue, so I bought a darker blue and painted up 3/4 of the wall, with white on top (and then the light blue "sky" shows through). I painted some fish and then made some out of fabric (cut out and attached to cardstock). I also made a hanging mobile (don't really know what to call it) for his ceiling with alternating crabs and starfish.
When they were 3 I moved my daughter into her own room, which was already pink from the previous owner, and painted flowers as a border (but never really completed it as much as I wanted to), and hung butterfies from the ceiling.

In the house were moving into in <2 weeks, I'm not painting the walls AT ALL! LOL!

I'm not a big "theme" fan....even for kids, mainly because they grow out of their interests so fast. That being said, there are some generic ideas that could grow with your kids.

Is your son into sports? Something like a locker room look that he could keep organized and could apply to any sport. He could change it up as he grows....and you can do so much with little creative cubbies and textures.

Whatever you do...think about how long you're going to be in your house. Putting a lot of money and time in a "theme" type decor if you're going to move in a few years may not be cost effective. We had to stage a beautiful house that had four bedrooms......and three of them were theme rooms. All the feedback from potential buyers was that there was too much work to redo it all!

thanks for the input Cat! I was actually thinking for my son, something not necessarily related to a cartoon character or anything like that. Something like trains or a Texas theme. I havent really decided yet. for my daughter I wanted a paisley design or polka dots. I am not sure yet, but i certainly appreciate your comments! definitely something for us to think about!

Not sure how wild he would be about it, but a vintage "cowboy" theme would be fun. Sort of "Roy Rogers" decor...lariats, bandanas, denim, leather/look or pleather...or inside an old train depot.....lots of great ideas to play off those two themes!

Paisley and polka dots sounds great for a girls room.

Good luck!

LOL! Line the walls with fake fur and put in a disco ball....he'll be in heaven!

My daughter loves paisley and she's 26! Definitely a girl thing!

So I hear ...from some of my friends. Mine missed that stage....although I think we have a trunk of Mutant Ninja Turtles somewhere.
