What Is Going On With Gas Prices In San Antonio?!?
OK, this is driving me nuts! A month ago, before I left the country on a business trip for a week and a half, gas could be found for $1.35/gal.
I come back mid-month and it's up 30¢/gal, and now it's gone up another 15¢!
Now, yesterday morning I am driving to work and it is $1.79/gal at the Murphy at Culebra and 1604. Later, when I run to the WalMart there at 5:00 in the afternoon it is down to $1.71/gal (so I gassed up the Jeep). Now, this morning at 6:00 the price is back up to $1.75/gal!
And, where you could find gas cheaper by about 5¢-10¢/gal at certain stations, it now seems like everyone is about at the same price!
I keep seeing the price of a barrel of oil dropping, but our gas prices keep going up. I know the oil producers use any excuse to raise the price (heck, the next time someone says there's "trouble in the Middle East," I am going to ask them when has there not been trouble in the Middle East?!? ); but what is their excuse this time?
Anyone know? If not, thanks for letting me blow off some steam!
Cheers! M2

You're kidding right? You know it only went down because it was election time.

The election was the first week of November, gas prices continued to drop through the New Year. You can't be even trying to tell me this is Obama's fault...or at least because of him!

They are saying that its going to average about 2.25/gal because the demand is up!!! so my advice is to keep the demand low. I hardly go out anymore and when I do. I drive real slow and shift real quick when I drive the v8

No not Obama's fault at all. Its kinda like that whole thing over in the Gaza Strip. Its election time over in Isreal as well so they have to show the people something. Things like this always happen when its election time.

I have been getting mad at this too because the actual oil prices have remained steady (around $40-41/barrel). There is nothing to justify the increase in gas prices and I think they are doing it beecause nobody is saying anything about it on the news. Of course they're too busy with reporting a lot of doom and gloom that is mostly applicable to only a few specific states.
Also, supplies keep rising because demand keeps falling. There really is nothing to justify the increase at all.

when gas is cheap, people take advantage - like gassing up the jeep - so then prices go back up b/c the item is in demand.

I was gassing up the Jeep when it was nearly $4/gal; and since it is not my "daily driver" (I have a small Toyota that gets ~35 MPG for that), I don't use that much gas in it. About a tank or two a month at the most.
I understand why gas prices rose so high (not that I agreed with the reason behind it, but I understood what was happening); but this time there is no logical explanation as far as I can see. Oil prices are either dropping or remaining level, and demand is doing the same. If anything, the post-Christmas trend tends to be less traveling, which continues until Spring Break and peaks when summer rolls around.
So it must be some other factor...to include greed!
