My first time there, I was 16 yrs old and just happy to be able to sneak in (drinking age was 18, and I had a STACHE!) I walked up to the bar, ordered a beer and said hello to a dude who was standing right next to me. He gave me a funny look, turned his head to the right and PUKED HIS GUTS OUT ALL OVER THE FLOOR RIGHT NEXT TO THE BAR!!! It was awesome. I loved Cooter's. I do not remember any of those bands ya'll talked about playing there, I am sorry I missed those shows.
A few years later, I was working at Galaxy Billards Pool Hall off of I-10 and Wurzbach when the owners went in on the Cooter Brown's. I do nto remember all of the specifics but I do remember that a girl was killed out there and there were a few assaults and they shut the place down.

Wish I had gone more often after reading these posts: i.e. Nazarath, Stevie Nicks, Ted NUGENT!!!.

Does anyone remember ROCK ISLAND on Wurzbach?

They had a lot of national acts go through that little club in the 80's: Foghat, Dee Snider (of Twisted Sister), Quiet Riot etc...

I think Cooter Browns was later called The Moose Lounge in the early 90's. We had a lot of college parties out there.

That place was AWESOME! It was still at that location for my first few years of college. Then it moved over to the Fredericksburg location. We spent a lot of time there and also at Dallas on $.25 beer Thursdays.

Terry Cummings of the Spurs moved into the Wurzbach location afer Rock Island left.

I was a bartender there. Great %%^&^& time. It became a moose lodge and then burned down

Hello,

I did not know it burned down. I remember the Moose Lodge now that you mention it.

Sorry to hear the building is gone. When Is San Antonio finally going to get another decent club that caters to the Rock crowd? I loved going to these clubs like Rock Island, Sneaker's, & Cooter Brown and seeing bands including national acts.

White Rabbit is kind of a dive. Sunset station caters to the under 21 crowd.

One of these days someone will open another one, Rock is too popular in San Antonio!

Long Live Joe Anthony "The Godfather!"

Where was Cooter Brown's? I remember the name but have a hard time picturing "behind UTSA." To me that's kind of like saying "behind downtown."

Hi OZZY!

Going to get your free tickets to the OZZFEST?

I can not tell you where it was because I never drove. Itend to not pay attention when I do not drive and cannot remember the directions to a place, even though I went there multiple times.

It was across 1604 from UTSA ... it looks like the Shops of Cantera are there now from looking at a map - haven't been back to that area in years.

That sounds about right gulf5driver.

That is probably why I could not remember where it was because it has been built over.

Ok. Some people would call that "across from UTSA." Depends on the perspective. If you consider UTSA Boulevard the front of UTSA then I could see how La Cantera is behind it.

It was what we used to refer to as across from UTSA (across 1604)... wow...a discussion about Cooter Browns...how cool. But come on now we can't really have a discussion about Cooter's without mentioning Skip Willie's or the Razzle Dazzle can we? Guess I'm showing my age here but I don't care.
