Default Food Challenges and "Man vs. Food" in San Antonio (merged threads)

Hi, I'm new to this forum and tried to search for this but found nothing, so I'm sorry if this is a re-post. But I have been watching that show "Man v Food" on the travel channel lately and it got me wondering, where are the places with challenges like that in San Antonio. Now I know if you eat a big Hamburger over at Cheesy Jane's you get your Polaroid taken and put on the wall....but does anyone else know where they have food challenges like eat something big, or under a certain amount of time? Thanks again

I can't think of any place right off....but the thought of it sort of makes me queasy. I only hear of things like that at festivals like the Luling Watermelon Thump....or some other county fair. But surely there must be someplace with the biggest Chimichanga???

I own a restaurant and we have the occassional wing eating contest, but nothing at the level of Man v Food. I'm definitely willing to consider it if there are some willing participants.

There was a steak house that at on time gave the steak for free if you ate it all. I can't remember the name! The Flying Saucer has the U.F.O. Club where you drink a certain number of varieties of beer and you get a plate with your name hung in the "Ring of Honor. No, you don't drink the beer in one night! There is actually a limit to the number of points you can get in each visit. The point is to try beers from all over the world, learn about them and enjoy them.

The Flying Saucer looks like a great place, I saw it on that show "San Antonio Living". I saw some nice German beer.

Where at? I bet we could get some people together for that.

I will have to check out that Flying Saucer place. That sounds interesting.
How many different types of beer could they possibly have there?
I know that every once in a while at Las Palapas, they have a contest to see how many "East L.A. Burritos" that you can eat in ten minutes.

I think Bobby Js in Helotes has a similar hamburger challenge...but I fear such a challenge would put me off their fine burgers!

Cheers! M2

It's been 20 years since I've been there but The Barn Door Restaurant (http://barndoorrestaurant.com/home.html - broken link) had a steak challenge back then. I remember seeing Mike Souchak's picture on the wall after he had finished the steak.

I have no idea if they're still doing that or not.
