Default 10 homes in Cibolo Canyons were broken into

One of our neighbors just told us that a friend of theirs, who lives in Cibolo Canyons, had their home broken in to. The thiefs threw rocks in the windows to see if an alarm will go off. If it didn't, that is the house that they hit. How are they able to do that and not be seen or heard? I guess maybe they did one house per street?

I am not familiar with that neighborhood but if the houses are close together then someone should have heard the noise. Plus, I am not paranoid but I am surprised that anyone would not have an alarm in this day and age. And yes, if it were my neighborhood I would have confronted them, as it is important for neighbors to watch out for each other!

Cheers! M2

Was it during the day or at night? On my street we have at least half the houses with stay at home moms. Didn't someone hear something?

That was the first thought that came to my mind, too. Our neighborhood had a presentation by the SAPD SAFFE officer and he said that people should always call 911 if they hear breaking glass. Maybe it just didn't come to mind as a problem if they heard it?

If I am inside my house, I don't think I'd ever hear someone else's window being broken. I haven't seen anything on local news sites about this.....when did it happen?

I don't know what time of day it happened or when. I was inside and my husband did not go into much detail. He was too busy going online checking out the survelance cameras. We had a few break ins in our neighborhood a few months ago. Our neighborhood is small (50 something homes) and we only have 3 streets which all dead end into cul de sacs. My dh hopes the cameras will deter crime, at least on our side because we are one of the first homes on the street do the cameras will catch the cars coming and going. We did not have any theft, but that is probably because we have lights on in the house all night. We are up until 2 am most of the time. I am also a stay at home mom so I am always looking out of the windows.

isn't that neighborhood gated or is the main enterance open and then the individual neighborhoods are gated...

i know the gate means nothing in this day and age, but i am surprised that nobody would notice a strange vehicle just parked there long enough for 10 homes to be broken into

although, they are still building all around there, so maybe people thought it was a contractors car ---

no nieghborhood or area of town is immune anymore...

If I remember correctly, each neighborhood is gated. I really wanted to be in a gated community until the other day when we lost power. There were several cars in different neighborhood that could not get in or out. I would have thought those things have a backup power.

That's really scary. What if there was a brush fire threatening the neighborhood and power was lost (not uncommon in a big wild fire)?

I'm not a fan of gated communities for a number of reasons, but I'm really not a fan of ANY neighborhood that only has one IN and one Out option. I guess that comes from having lived in a brush-fire-prone area, but also true for flood prone areas. Gated communities make me feel trapped IN rather than safe for keeping undesirables out.

We used to live in a gated community, but don't anymore; but if such a situation occurred I would be at the front of the line pushing through the gate with my Jeep. Honestly, I am not even sure if I could do it; but I know I would try!

And, as many of those who live in gated communities know, they are no deterrant for keeping people out!

Cheers! M2
