A meat market will have better meat then general grocery stores. Thats their focus. Moving the prouct is key. If all you sell is meat its going to move as opposed to focusing on toilet paper, fritos and chips as well.

Curiosity got the better of me.........went by La Michoacana today. Much cleaner than a Culebra Meat Market, like svg said. They were rockin' in there today. There is a taqueria, a bakery that smelled delightful, and a huge meat section. Prices were very reasonable. the produce selection was fairly small, but it looked nice with good prices. They sell a lot of product from Mexico (canned goods, sodas, soaps, cookies, etc.). If it was closer to my house, I would probably stop in every now and then. I have a CMM just up the road, and keep on rollin' when I go past.

Culebra Meat Markets are vile IMO. They absolutely disgust me upon smell alone. They are always filthy (and Ive been to ones on the NSide(yes one exists on the Nside), West, and Southside) and I have seen some of the handling action that goes on and its beyond excusable. Flies, highly visible droppings, expired products ---- yuck the list goes on! There is one down the street from my neighborhood (Old Pearsall) and my husband or myself go in there from time to time to buy beer, and within the last few months I finally told him he would have to forgo the convenience of its location and go to HEB. I cant support a place as digusting as that in any shape or form.
As for La Michoacana... I used to work at the Petsmart next door when I was in high school, and DAILY rats, mice, gerbils, and hamsters would manage to find there way into the Homestyle Buffet so I wouldnt doubt that they may still be finding there way still. Im probably being paranoid, but I just cant mentally get over the thought or image.
I think we have talked "meat" before, and if value is your main concern, my in laws swear by La Fiesta meat being the best in prices and quality.

I've been to almost been to all food stores in SA mostly as a Delivery driver, either soda, or meat. the only one I've never set foot in was Handy Andy/ or hobby lobby, dont know which sells food and which sells crafts.

Not only that The us has FDA, and HD.
Mexico only has a Secretary of Health.
And I've never seen anyone sell processed meat whenever I go visit. Its usually killed in the AM or the night before. Its just depends on what youre used to eating, I sometimes get sick when I visit over there usually, I have to sleep near the toilet or have my handy bag with me, whenever I eat some kind "mystery meat" lol! I always try to avoid pork when I'm over there though..

It's rather large and looks like it might be interesting.....I know they have those in Houston, if it is part of that chain.

yes, that is the place to go. we go to the location on fredericksberg rd. my dad was a butcher for 10 years, and he prefers that place over culebra mm.

I have stepped in a CMM one time and was surprised how dark it was. It also smelled very strange and that was a big turn off. I would recommend Costo for meat. We have always had very good luck there.
