Highland Homes
What is the reputation of Highland Homes around San Antonio? I currently own one in the DFW area (great quality and service) and my parents are interested buying a new house in S.A.. They have looked at the Highland Homes around the area and the quality seems to be on par with my house in DFW, but just wondering if that is an accurate assessment.
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

My neighborhood is half Highland half Medallion. As far as I know they are great quality, very pretty. I think they are over priced but that's just my opinion.

Michelle, thanks for the response. I looked on JD Power and I found it quite interesting to see the disparity in ratings between Dallas and San Antonio for Highland. In Dallas they are one of the top builders, in San Antonio they are middle of the road - also the pricing between one city and the other is not that much different. Wonder if anyone else could comment on the quality of Highland Homes in San Antonio.

don't yu think using JD Powers is little suspect for accurate feedback from homeowners--think that is more marketing than analytical source on almost any product they focus on--just IMO
and I know people in DFW area that are not too happy with Highland--felt that they were mislead into buying homes in one development particularly where there was information withheld/misrepresented about traffic arteries...

Love Highland Homes
I realize this thread was discussed back in March but I just have to comment. We bought a 3500 sq ft. 2 story 4 bedroom Highland Home in the Dallas/Fort Worth area several months ago and I can't recommend Highland enough. We are extremely pleased with this builder and have been treated so well from the first time we looked at our home right through the whole buying process through the move in and as late at today. Courteous and totally professional!
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them and I'd buy a Highland Home again in a heartbeat!

I can provide you my unbiased opinion that Highland Homes in San Antonio, as far as construction material, quality control, and customer service by the on-site builders is sub-par to other tract home builders (i.e., David Weekly, Newmark...and even Ryland). I looked at all the builders, and Highland Homes ranks in the lower third IMHO. I'm going through a painful and long build with Highland Homes right now...painful is an understatement. However, I have to say their floor plans do flow better than most tract home plans I reviewed and walked through by aforementioned builders...and the sales consultant I've been dealing with for the last 8 months has been a pleasure to deal with. By the way, my house is just shy of $500K and about 4,300 SF...I would have pulled the plug on the house and gone with David Weekly over three months ago, but my wife likes the neighborhood where Highland is building. Do I feel I'm getting my money's worth...absolutely not. Are there intangible hardships dealing with Highland Homes in San Antonio...absolutely yes!!!

Would NOT recommend Highland Homes
We have owned a Highland Home for 9 1/2 years now. We had it built for us so we are the only owners and we have had one problem after another. We purchased from Highland becasue of their reputation, but we have seen example after example of shoddy workmanship. After two years we had major foundations problems, even after extensive work our house is three inches higher on one end than the other. We have two of three toilets that were not installed properly (one had no wax seal at all) and have leaked and caused problems. We have walls that are not plumb and upstairs floors that slant downward. We are in the middle of replacing the carpet upstairs and just found out that the plywood that should have been installed was not there and it was just pressed wood underneath. Every time we turn around we have to pay more money in repairs for things that were not done correctly in the first place.
I must say though in fairness to Highland that they paid for the foundation repairs, but the house was so messed up they could not correct the three inch difference. Everything rolls downhill in the house. Hopefully they have fixed thier quality control issues, but I would not purchase nor recommend a Highland Home to anyone.

I would be very leary of JD Powers, they require builders to pay to get into their top line up it's all a marketing ploy which some builders refuse to take the bait.

Highland Home
I own a Highland Home in the Garden Ridge area. It is off of I-35 just North of San Antonio. I have had excellent service during my dealings with Highland homes.
Good Luck with your move
