NEW RULE: City Council members are banned from changing street names. If all you bring to the table is some lame name change for a street we all know, then you are no longer invited to sit at the table.

Renaming Guenther to 'Mango Street' seen as unlikely (http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/Councilwoman_wants_street_renamed_Mango_Street.htm l - broken link)

Mary Alice wants to change Guenther St. to Mango Street, in honor of Sandra Cisneros' book, published 25 years ago, "The House on Mango Street". They are not related, by the way.

No one was pleased.

Sandra Cisneros didn't have a dog or cat to use their names?

What a waste of time, effort, and $. Guenther is historically significant to the city. The widely unread "The House on Mango Street" is not. Who want's breakfast at the Mango House?

It's not as funny since I've found out he intentionally mis-stated her name. We should have *spit coffee* on pontifikate's post.
