I remember this news story when it came out. In addition to the flea markets, several Mexican food resturants also bought stolen items. Some people I talked with thought the sting was entrapment. I disagree, as the people who bought the items were told before that they were stolen. That is breaking the law and they knew it. It will be interesting to see if the police and stores team up again like this in the future. I'm all for it!
I did want to address the posters who said anything that is new at a flea market is stolen. Bootleggers or piraters aside, most market dealers, esp permanent ones are honest and buy from legitimate wholesalers. Many buy mixed goods by the pallet (including household items) much like dollar stores do. Dealers of a specific type of product also buy items at retail stores when they are on clearance, or at store closings. They often leave to original full price tags on them when they sell them as a reference point. This does not automaticaly mean the goods were stolen.
I'm sure there are dishonest or criminal dealers out there, and if something seems to good to be true, it may be. However, most venders are just hard working folks with fine reputations, and would resent being lumped in with the crooks. JMO
