That means they do less of something or they pay less to do something that they're doing now. Outsourcing graphics production covers the latter issue. What else should the E-N outsource? What should the E-N do less of?

It is a broken model and there is not much than can be done to fix it. Newspapers are yesterdays news, today. Since national news is pretty covered, they should put more emphasis on state/local news.

They should also experiment with online delivery of of the paper(kindle/pdf).

Next are a LOT of print books.

Kindle reading device makes printed books sooooo outdated.
I get access to international newspapers, magazines and best sellers at the flip of my wispernet connection, and don't have to pay shipping...plus I get the books for $9.99 max vs the print price of somewhere around $30 bucks each now (minus tax)...I LOVE the Kindle, and think it will do to printed materials the same thing internet has done to newspapers. Technology, love it or hate it they will continue to develop things that make "standards" obsolete.

It's always been a very "simple" paper with mostly ads and severely lacking in news or opinions. i suppose i found them to be "hypocritical" b/c it is san antonians who are buying the product, but they are not supporting san antonians in the process by outsourcing some of their work and putting those ppl out of work

My boss was just talking about this today. He bought a kindle for his wife, and she wouldn't even touch it. So, he picked it up and has already downloaded 3 books. He loves it, says you can read outside with it and the sun doesn't affect the screen at all. Plus, it will even read to him. It kind of makes me sad, as I love books so much, but what can you do?

I would suggest "disloyal" rather than "hypocritical" but it's the American way.

They are WONDERFUL and YES, you can read anywhere with it. I LOVE the fact that I was able to download all the books I wanted to read on my cruise, and could carry something that weighed less than 10oz vs an entire suitcase full of books with me. Also, when something that EVERYONE wants (can you say Harry Potter???) come out, it is available for IMMEDIATE DOWNLOAD at midnight that night...no lines, no gas, no taxes, no shipping, and NO BUYING MORE THAN WHAT YOU WENT INTO THE STORE FOR!

I honestly thing this is the BEST thing since dry socks!!! Go to Amazon and check out the little info video...if you read at ALL, it is something you would NEVER give up.

PS...Also bookmarks everything you are reading right where you left off...no more bookmark issues...AND you can get a "try it" first chapter of something, read it and decide if it is something you want to buy!!! Man, it doesn't get better than that!!!

That shouldn't bother you. Most csr jobs are outsourced to India and the rest of Asia now.

Welll...after spending the better part of my adult life living overseas and having limited knowledge of a few different languages, I can honestly say that there are times I have had MUCH difficulity trying to carry on a conversation with some outsourced CSR. Not that they are not polite, or trying to help, but some accents are just too much for me without the face to face ability to watch expressions and get the gust of the conversation. I have resorted to calling back at times just i hopes of getting someone else on the line.
