Question Visiting San Antonio for upcoming move to the area

Hello All. I am mostly looking for the help of the local experts. I will be taking a trip to San Antonio in about 2 weeks. My husband got a new job in Cotulla, and we plan to live in the SOUTH San Antonio area. Can anyone suggest to us, as we have never been there before, where we should be checking out. We are looking for a nicer neighborhood close to shopping and restaurants. We plan on buying and starting a new family. Any info would be really appreciated. Also, feel free to PM me. Thanks in advance.

going thru the sticky thread now. noticed a lot of posts about the southside being questionable. is this still true? we are definetly not stuck on being in the south of SA. but my husbands commute will be on 35, so the closer he can get on that to the south the better. but we have, all of our lives, lived in nicer, not ghetto, areas and hope to keep it that way. we are both in our late 20's, love to go about, but as i stated earlier, will start a family this year.

Welcome!

Make sure you pay attention to the posted speed limit
on that stretch of I-35 near Cotulla.

And be aware of an unmarked white Tahoe.
I do not know who that joker is or if he is even real law enforcement?!?

I drive I-35 S every month into Laredo and when I reach Cotulla,
I almost always see this Tahoe aggressively patrolling that strech of I-35.

He will follow along side of or directly behind your car, even staring into the car...very weird.

I keep my sunglasses on,
keep my cruise control set and
never look his way...

Hey!!! Glad you're moving to San Antonio. It is a great city! I have lived here for about 3 years now and I have loved every minute of it. Wow...Cotulla is a long way away but if you don't mind the drive from San Antonio to Cotulla, I would HIGHLY recommend looking into neighborhoods in the Far Northwest Side near SeaWorld...the southside is getting better all the time but it is a little rough in many areas. I live in the Far Northwest Side and it is growing rapidly and there is a lot to do within a 20 min drive. We have Six Flags, SeaWorld, The Shops at La Canterra, Alamo Ranch, and many nice neighborhoods and great schools. Pretty much everything is brand new so it is very nice.

near Seaworld....so "OakCreek" and "Heritage"? are those like subdivions? Adams Hills, Rainbow hills....im just reading these off the google map.

my husband is acutally going to be working with the Border Patrol in Cotulla. I live in FL now, but am from NJ. Big city gal, so need to be in a larger city with lot of people, traffic and buildings!!

Maybe this is a better question. Where exactly should we stay away from?

Man, that's a long, lonely commute. You could not pay me to drive that twice a day. And when gas goes back up......yikes. Are you sure you have your mind made up about living in SA? I mean, Cotulla would not be my first choice for living, but it's a really long hike from here.
