Default For those of you that think that WE have it bad for the daily commute here in SA.....

Guess this helps us divide the true optimist from the pessimist when it comes to our actual traffic issues here in San Antonio....

America's Most Congested Cities - Yahoo! Real Estate

Looks like we have it GOOOOOOOD here!

The reason we didn't make the Top 20 is that San Antonio, being one of the fattest cities, has too many fat people that can't fit into cars!

Having driven in many bigger cities on both business trips (in my corporate life before I became a teacher) and vacation, I have definitely experienced much worse congestion that I encounter here on a typical day. (Also, we moved back down here after several years in Omaha. My family and I used to laugh when the news there would show their traffic pictures and talk about rush hour or traffic congestion, then you would look at the picture and there were maybe 10 cars in a 1/2 mile stretch spread across 3 lanes. I have many positives and negatives about Omaha, but traffic was almost always a positive because it was nothing compared to anywhere else I have lived.)

It just seems that some of the traffic delays here are so nonsensical. I do not understand the need to slam on one's brakes to gawk at a major accident, a fender bender, a car a police officer has pulled over, a car a police officer has pulled over on the flipping other side of the interstate, etc. I also think that the digital signs on the highway (whatever the real name for them is) can do more harm than good, especially when the message is lengthy. Many of my fellow drivers don't seem capable of reading that quicklly, but they feel the need to attempt it every time (again, slamming on the brakes all the while) while moving their lips and reading about a missing elderly...
Sorry for the rant - just one of those days.

I don't mind traffic here for the most part.... but heading 35 north from SA to Austin is terrible! I went to College Station this past weekend and had bumper to bumper traffic from San Marcos to 1604.

Before we moved here, people kept warning me about the "traffic". Well, it may get congested during certain hours, but so far it's nothing like I've experienced in other cities.

What I HAVE noticed here are CRAZY drivers. Seriously nuts. Road rage and all.

The full report San Antonio metro ranked # 25. If San Antonio didn't have a freeway network that was designed to handle a city three times the size, we would be in big trouble. San Antonio has one of the nations largest freeway systems.

there is no way in hell we are worser than Austin. Austin only has one major highway the other three are highways but you have to merge at diffrent points.

Austin just has 35 thats packed. I guess because San Antonio has more freeways that are packed. San Antonio has a urbanized area almost twice the size of Austin's. Travis county has about 950k and Bexar 1.6 million.

haha trust me you guys have no idea how good you have it.. L.A. is a total and complete mess with traffic.. go to www.sigalert.com and you can see how slow our traffic is going.. earlier today my husband was trying to get the vital statistics office and that whole freeway was literally going 8mph, not rush hour, no accidents, nothing..

Houston has some pretty dense traffic too.. whenever I visit back home I'm shocked at how jammed up the surface streets are in the NW/Copperfield area
