I have a friend of mine who is a book editor and she needs to get the correct spelling correct on Gildemeister or Gildermeister Jewelry. She thinks they might have had a store in North Star Mall.

Here is her request:
Can you find in one of them how to spell Gildermeisters Jewelry Store. Or is it Gildemeisters without that middle r? I've checked everything I can find, with no results. I thought, in fact, that they still had a store at North Star Mall, but there is no listing in the phone book.

She was requesting that I look up the name in some books of her's that I am borrowing. I looked it up and found no references. Please help!!

I searched the county clearks web site for assumed names and found Gildemeister's (no r but with 's). It list the owners name as Roger Reiner. I then Googled Roger Reiner and found this site

The correct spelling according to their "Jewelry Box", which belonged to my Great Grandmother is "Gildemeister". The information printed reads..."Established 1890, Chas Gildemeister & Son Jewelers, 122 Broadway, San Antonio, Tex."

I wrote of a fairly long reply but accidentally clicked the wrong button and lost it all - but there's quite a bit of info available on the web if you search around. One place to start would be at The Carl Descendants of John and Rosanna Summit Swank , which contains some info (including a photo) of Carl J. Gildemeister (1899-1988), and you can find info about his father (Charles John Gildemeister, 1868-1947) in the Daughters of American Revolution Magazine vol. 113 (1979) page 1186.

My 1968 San Antonio phone book shows two Gildemeister locations: Downtown at 209 E Travis Street, phone # was CApitol 5-7104, and at 676 North Star Mall, phone # DIamond 4-8503.

The North Star Mall location was near Frost Brothers, and Sims Baldwin Pianos. The North Star Cinema address was 700 North Star Mall.
