Luminaria: Arts Night In San Antonio
I haven't heard much talk about it, but am excited and ready for this years Luminara Arts Night this Saturday! It is going to be bigger than last years event which drew in over 100,000 people into downtown.
This is truly unique to San Antonio and makes us one of the few great cities (if not the only) in America who actually have an all day/night "arts event" on this big of a scale. Luminaria is modeled after the "Nuit Blanche" (White Night) annual event held in Paris.
Let's hope it becomes a lasting tradition in SA. Is anyone else going his year?

I had never heard of it, and I'm always on the lookout for stuff like this. Post about it a week or so in advance next year, would you please?
ETA: It's a WEEK from today! THANK YOU for posting this!

I'll be attending some of the events.
Luminaria has exploded in the short time it's existed.

This is only it's second year. Last year, it was amazing. over the top, but incredible. Every square inch was covered with art of some sort - visual, performance etc. It was overwhelming but well worth it. I highly recommend it.
We will be there to be sure!

Luminaria is a great idea for SA.
Something that is actually aimed at taking pride in the artistic diversity we have here.
They have the arts part locked down it seems, but I really would like to see them step up the musical line-ups. Not really much there at the moment to bring in the 20-30 somethings.
Since there are so many indie performers just up the road for SXSW during this time, I would think it wouldn't be that hard.
Still plan on checking out several galleries during the weekend.

It's great to see this expanded to all the arts!
However, the Little Church at La Villita has held San Antonio's Starving Artists show as a fundraiser for at least 40 years now...probably longer. I hope this doesn't effect their proceeds and efforts. The SA Starving Artist's Show has been held annually on the 1st week of April.
This is the season for a LOT of events and festivities. Lots to do and lots of fun!
BTW - San Antonio's Starving Artist Show is held outdoors along the banks of the SA river....and is NOT to be confused with the traveling commercial event advertised on TV at the Holiday Inn!
