Default New to SA. Need help finding affordable home in safe neighborhood

Hi, My wife and I are currently looking for a home in SA. As of now, she has already moved to SA and began her new job. I will be moving down from Houston within the current month. We both are in our mid 20's and this will be our first home. Our price limit is only about in the 120's. The realtor we are currently with is just unable to accommodate our needs.
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone knew of a safe clean area north of downtown SA, close to 78201, which is where her job is. We have been unable to find anything attractive.

Please take a look at the relocation sticky at the top of the page. Good luck!

I think 120,000$ is too low for Balcones Heights. Am I wrong?

It can be found, the houses will be needing some major updating (some are stuck in the 70s decor).

Surely, you're not talking about central market on Broadway. A "little home" there starts around 250-300k.

Sounds like you need a new Realtor.

Past that, what is your current financial situation for the home buying process? Do you still need approval or do you have cash in hand/letter from Mortgage Broker? If you havent spoken to a mortgage broker, you might want to give that a shot as they have access to many first time home buyer programs that will allow you to maximize your buying dollar. When I bought my first home, I used Castle and Cooke here in town and a great lady named Karen Matyear helped us out. I got a great deal and a house exactly in my budget. Karen is not with Castle and Cooke any more, but here is their information if you are interested.

Castle & Cooke Mortgage, LLC

Karen Matyear, Legacy Mutual Mortgage

Why don't you rent first? That way you can take your time in finding a home to buy in a neighborhood that's right for you. Also, it will give you all time to get settled in your new jobs.

We rented a home in Olmos Park Terrace, 78212...and loved it. Also, 78201...Montecello Park area is nice.
The 78212 area near Trinity University has duplexes that are nice and reasonable and "safe"....281 HWY and Mullberry or E. Huisache area.
