Default San Antonio Neighborhoods

My husband and I have determined that we want to leave our current location and move someplace warmer. San Antonio came up! There will be the two of us and three daughters, my biggest worry is getting in a good neighborhood in a good part of town!

We are moving from Anchorage, AK which is pretty "small town" like, and I don't want to move down there, have my hubby get a bad taste and have to come back to this ice box!

What are your recommendations?

There's a lot of helpful information for newcomers in the relocation sticky thread at the top of the list of threads in this forum. Be sure to check that out!

San Antonio covers a big area, with desirable places to live in many parts of town. Couple of questions that will help us make a neighborhood recommendation: What's your price range for a house? Where will the working spouse(s) be commuting to? (You can give a side of town if you don't want to specify the employer(s).)

We just moved here from Missour last summer, and we tried to stick pretty close to where my husband was going to be working. We live in the North Central part of SA, and we LOVE it!

Good luck on your move! I would highly suggest a trip to look things over first!

I am looking for a home in the $100k-$150k range, preferably newer, my husband will be working away from home, so most of the time it will just be me and the girls. I don't mind fixing things up, but I definately don't want any real work (the kids are enough!!!).

That should be doable in several areas of town.

Will the kids be going to public school? Some popular areas of town have schools that are over-populated, so the kids who move into those attendance areas now have to go to schools that are farther away than the closest school.

My husband and I moved here 6 months ago and are enjoying it. NE SA near 281/Thousand Oaks. You can find newer construction and cute subdivisions. Many homes for sale. Get in touch with a realtor. Check out your options. On the downside, it took 4 1/2 months for hubby to find a job and he is vary marketable. But it sounds like your husband will be transfering. Check your insurance premiums. Ours tripled from what we were paying in Cleveland OH with the same company! And we are A+ drivers. Also, check the cost of transfering auto titles and registration. These are some costs we did not factor in. Almost everyone has their car windows tinted. H.E.B. is almost the only 'grocery' store unless you go to Wal-mart. another monopoly. I'd say, try to check it out first and do your homework. Any move is an adventure with it's ups and downs. All in all, we have been loving it here. Hope this helps.

Thank everyone lots! The links here have been great, there is just so much online to look at... there is so much on this website to look at...

Any quick links to the builders there and who is good/bad? That whole "Sivage" "HOA" "Foreclosure" thing there has me wondering... I know people have their good and bad days, but...

oh yeah, and kids will most likely be going to public schools, unless I find out they are absolutely horrible!
