Default San Antonio Wild Animal Orphanage...Anybody been?

Heres the website:

Welcome to the Wild Animal Orphanage in San Antonio

Anybody know anything about it? I'm interested in going but don't want to if its lame. Would rather just go to the zoo but would like something different.

Yep, been there a few times. We live within walking distance of the place (less than a mile away) and I drive by it almost every day on my way to work (Leslie Road helps me miss the Braun/1604 and New Guilbeau/1604 intersections).

It is a bit different than the zoo, not as fancy but remember their main mission is as a rescue and it is much smaller than the zoo. But it is educational and a worthy cause! I took my Cub Scout pack there once as well, they like groups like that.

We used to live even closer, and on quiet nights when traffic on 1604 was light, you could hear some of the animals roaring!

Cheers! M2

Haven't been. I hadn't even heard of it. Their site makes it sound like they only do organized, educational tours on the 10 acre facility which sounds like you'd have to get a group together.

We enjoyed it. Just be careful of the monkeys! ha ha I don't remember if they spit or throw pooh but be careful. We took our girl scouts and I warned them but they didn't listen!

I went almost 20 years ago and my then-toddler son got to play with a baby lion that was roaming around the office. I doubt they still do that, but it was the cutest thing.

Our family went a few times on the weekend, but that was a while back. Call them, it's worth a least one trip.

The only thing I'd be wary about is that they've been under investigation for quite a few years for mismanagement of money and not caring for the animals properly. I worked there as a docent in the mid 90s and even by then it started to get bad. There is speculation that they have been burying animals on site and that the president has euthanized animals for reasons that most would consider cruel.
