I hate the anti-growth types. If you don't like the fact that the area is expanding why don't you get out? Same thing applies to those who have been here since the small town days. Growth and expansion is in the cards for San Antonio for the foreseeable future and beyond. So get used to it.

What I really like is the fact that traffic here is no problem at all. If you have ever lived in a top ten metro area you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. The traffic "problem" that some describe as existing here in San Antonio is an absolute dream for someone coming from Washington, Houston or Los Angeles. Again, it's just a matter of perspective.

You must not have moved very far. Because the only place on the Internet I have seen people actually demonstrate to others that they are morons by spelling out the word "y'all" are from Texas.

lol Sweetie Pie, good one.

I like those cute little ancient symbols for water along the newest reaches of the Riverwalk.

Would you prefer we spell it out "you all"?

LIKES:
- The economy. Texans have it better than most in this country.Stop complaining...

- Cost of living

- La Cantera. 'Bout time San Antonio caught up and did something 'upscale'. But all this talk about growth means nothing to me. Natives will still have their attitudes and San Antonio will still be somewhat 'podunk' and 'boring' no matter how much building takes place.

- Folks are nice. I've lived in states with some of the most pretentious and snotty folks you'd ever want to meet. Coming from areas where everyone's trying to 'keep up with the Jones', it was quite the culture shock coming back. Most San Antonians don't drive luxury cars...but they don't feel any sort of way about it. Sounds like an odd thing to say but it just illustrates my point. San Antonians are down to earth.

- Mexican Food. When I was away from Texas, I would've killed for a carne guisada plate.

- Traffic problem? What traffic problem...? Not to me. Hey, at least, San Antonio traffic moves. Be thankgul for small blessings. Talk to me when you're stuck on a bridge in traffic (in park) for over an hour trying to get home...

- A plethora of opportunities for those seeking an education. It's a good thing.

- *sigh* Ok...the Spurs. I'm a native Texan. I'll cheerlead for the home-team but I'm not that into sports. I gotta hand it Texans: They, in general, are some loyal die-hard sports fans. Fanatics. I mean, I have kinfolk in Houston who still brag on the Cowboys. Remember when the Spurs were on track to win their first ring? Every other car on the road had those stupid Spurs flags hanging from their window, I kid you not. *laugh*

- That some Texans dress so stereotypically. The 'kicker' look: Cowboy boots, buckle and hat. I think it's so cute. *laugh*

DISLIKES:

- San Antonio is very...slow. This could be a good place for young professionals but if you're looking to have fun? Go elsewhere. This is a city for married folks and families. The nightlife is weak. The club scene is wack. Radio stations are horrible. Celebs and such don't hold court down here. They go to Dallas, Austin and Houston. San Antonio is always behind the curve and size has nothing to do with it. It's just a big city that refuses to act like one. I'm used to faster cities and having a hard time adjusting.
The economy keeps me here but I'll be leaving in a year...

- Some grocery store competition wouldn't hurt. Texas needs a 'Publix'. Or a 'Sweetbay'...those stores are very pretty.

- The graffiti. San Antonio is prettier than it used to be. Still, someone needs to get these little gangs under control...

- The lack of diversity. I'm coming from Florida. A TRUE melting pot. You meet people from all over: Europe, the carribean (pr, dominicans, cubans, jamacans, haitians), Africans, Asians, South Americans, Middle easterners, etc... Even Native Americans - they're there!
I miss that. San Antonio is no more diverse because it has an abundance of Mexicans than Atlanta is for having a horde of black people or Nebraska an abundance of white people. I went to the international market to get some cassava leaves in order to make Palm Butter? They didn't have any. They didn't have palm oil, either! *laugh*
'But we have olive oil...?'
Uh, yeah...that's really not the same thing, dude.
You're in a top 10 populous city. How can you call yourself having an 'international grocery store' and NOT sell African food?
That is so backwards...

- The lack of any other type of ethnic cuisine besides Mexican and watered down Asian joints. Right now, I would kill for some jerk chicken, plantains, PALM BUTTER and Puerto Rican food (in general).

- The city is segregated. I prefer and am used to 'have/ have not' spots. Where folks group off by class/socio-economic status...not 'race'.

- San Antonio drivers. My God. They're not horrible drivers. It's just that they all seem afraid to drive the speed limit! *laugh* San Antonio has some of the most inattentive drivers in creation.

- These pedestrians. Do they not like living? I was driving along Highway 90 to see my aunt and people just walk across the road at all points - oncoming vehicles or not - and take their sweet time doing it, too.

NEUTRAL:
- San Antonio has the largest concentration of fat people per sq mile than I ever recall seeing anywhere else.
...and they all love spandex. Now what's THAT about?
They simply refuse to dress for their body-type.

I am going to have to re-categorize your last bullet point and place it under the "Dislikes" category. People should really dress better.

Completely agree. Very well written. I would guess the education rate here is very low as well.

Nice safe city. A Big small town. Boring as heck though. And if you want to go somewhere...it is a good long drive...and there isn't much around here to go see. Granted there are some things...but not much.

I used to live 12-14 hours from the closest "real beach",
so I have to disagree with you.
