Default Best apartment complex in Alamo Heights area?? Relocating from Iowa...please help!

Hi!!

After reading all of the great threads on San Antonio, I thought I would post my own for you all to help me answer my questions! I'm relocating from Iowa to start a medical residency in San Antonio. I'm looking for a nice, newer apartment complex in a quiet safe area. So far it seems like Alamo Heights would be both nice and close to both the university and children's hospital. I'm looking to spend $1000-1200/month and would like an area that is VERY safe, and also close to shopping, food, grocery etc. In your opinion, what would be the BEST apartment complex in the Alamo Heights area??

Thanks so much!!!

At that price range, you should look at the Crescent on Treeline Park by the Quarry. That much per month will get you a nice two bedroom with an attached garage. For another $100-$200 or so you can look at the Meridian, which is just down the street. I would avoid the Marquis, it is heavy on the college student populations and isn't as updated as either the Crescent or the Meridian. I'd avoid the Quarry Townhomes, though - they are really overpriced and there are other people on the board who have lived there and had nothing but troubles.

The absolute newest complex is the Artessa at Quarry Village. There is a recent thread on it. I think it's overpriced and has oddly shaped units, but that's just my opinion - you might take a look and see what you think.

Also you could also look for a condo to lease or sublet at that price range.

I dont' consider the Alamo Heights close to the UTHSC/Med Center. Quite a few of the nicer apartments in that area are all senior citizens. I think you would be much happier with an apartment in the Rim/La Cantera areas.

Thanks for all of the great info!!! Along with the university hospital, I'll also be working at Christus Santa Rosa Children's Hospital. My boyfriend will be doing his residency at the military hospitals (rotations are in more than one place). So we're trying to find a location where neither of us will have to drive too far. I know, that's kind of a difficult request!!

If you're going to have to regularly drive to the medical center, downtown and Ft. Sam/Wilford Hall, Alamo Heights and the area at 281/Basse is about as central as you can get. You won't have any single drive that is super short, but none should be more than 15-20 minutes.

For about a day, when I thought I could move to AH, I looked at these apartments and by far, if you're looking for an apartment complex type living situation in that area in that price range these are the best. I would have moved there in a heart beat.

You'll be able to get to the Fort Sam area in a good 10 minutes without traffic (of course!) and the Med Center in about 20. Downtown is probably about 12 minutes away. It's a good spot.

La Cantera is probably a bit out if you're going to be going to Santa Rosa a lot, the traffic after Huebner on 10 is lame and getting downtown can be pain if there's an accident. The Medical Center isn't too bad, but I don't think there is anything brand newish in that area.

You might want to look at the Apartment Complexes at Oakwell Farms. They are with in a 5 minute drive of Ft. Sam. Also they are near 410 so you can hop on and have easy access to just about the entire city.
