There is a proposal to close Truman Middle School in Edgewood - being discussed at this week's School Board meeting, I believe.

I can't find any more pics on the district website. Stafford Elementary also has a new campus as of late January. Stafford ribbon cutting article is on p.8 Some of the teachers at Stafford feel their classrooms actually ended up being smaller because some of the walls are curved, storage was not planned out as well, etc. But many of the schools were in sad shape, so it's nice to get a couple of new ones.

I'm glad SOMETHING was done to improve some of the Edgewood schools. Districts like Edgewood have such a rich history in SA and deserve much better than the short end of the stick they have been getting in the last 20 years.

Parents are HOPPING mad about this "IMPROVMENT"!
I went to both meetings and it was a damn near riot!
They are going to try to stuff Truman middle school into Gus Garcia middle school(number one in gang activity) and turn one floor of Truman strictly for 8th graders, and the other floors alternative school delinquents.
Its too far to drive or bus some kids yet the district said they will have buses available. the only problem is that according to band teachers THEY ALWAYS SHOW UP 25 min late. So after a night basketball game some kids will be left POSSIBLY attended in the dark while the buses HOPEFULY show up before 10 PM. in a area that has over 350 registered sex offenders.

Im sorry I didnt know all the specific information, but I think I was right in stating that Edgewood is/has been ignored for such a long time. I find it hard to believe anything simliar to the the way Edgewood has been left in the cold would be acceptable in other school districts, oh well besides SAISD because apprarently anything goes there...

It funny you mention that. The SAISD is trying hard to work with teachers and parents to promote their comunity and school district to increase school population, the SAME problem that plauges Edwood. When i brought this up to the board and suggested IF THEY CAN DO IT SO CAN WE, they just looked at me and said they will sugest it to the state. OH WELL! Another Edwood voice to the list

I noticed the EN reported the vote closure a bit differently from the post you made previously, stating that there was a small audience and little to no drama ensued. Perhaps because the inevitable had already been accepted. Whatever decisions are made they have to be for whats in the best interest of the kids who go to these schools. I hope that is what they are attempting to accomplish. It doesnt make sense to continue running a facility at less than half capacity and the kids arent able to fully pariticipate and feel apart of the extra curricular activities because of the low enrollement. Of course I dont know all the story behind this kind of move, but again I sincerely hope the decisions being made not only are for budget reasons but also taking into consideration the kids being able to perform and participate in to their fullest abilities. They dont deserve a subrate education.
