Default Five Guys Burgers and Fries

Did it open today? Guess some of us will have to leave the deep dark pits of suburbia and head over to the Quarry, get some culture (besides the stuff in our yogurt!) and grab a burger!

I can't find any info on it......that's why I'm asking.

I saw the location...but can't answer your question yet. We'll check it out and let you know.

Just FYI....there's a great shop in Alamo Heights called Five Broads Off Broadway! They really do have awesome home furnishings and home accessories and decor...sort of country French...but very eclectic and fun. I just wondered if the burger joint is the other half getting even!

Try 5 Guys in the Quarry. Reminds me a little of In 'n Out - real basic pretty much burger only kind of place (they do have hot dogs). Their burgers are very good and their fries with the cajun seasoning on them are the bomb.

We tried Five Guys tonight. It was standing room only and seemed to be a very popular choice, considering the number of restaurants within easy walking distance.

It was very good. The burgers and fries were tasty. The potatoes in the fries and the add-ons to the burgers were very fresh. We enjoyed the peanuts in the shell that were available to snack on while we waited for our meal.

The only puzzling thing was the lack of outside seating. Maybe the Quarry Village is too new? There appeared to be open spaces nearby on the sidewalk that would accommodate outdoor tables.

If one of these were to open in the Stone Oak area, it'd be just as packed as this one.

thanks for mentioning the peanuts - I had it on my list of places to try but we'll steer clear now due to a peanut allergy!

Diet-be-damned, I tried them too recently...

Comparing them to In-and-Out is about right: Simple menu, simple food and it's served fast. Nothing fancy, but nothing that really gave the place personality either. In-and-Out has that surfer-cool feeling about it, but with the ad material from all of Five Guys other chain locations on the wall, it just felt a little, well, plastic.

I can't really put 5-Guys in the same class as places like Armadillos, Chesters, Madrid's or Timbos, but do recommend them for a cheap, quick eat. I respect that. The world is apples and oranges.

Final thought: Five Guys is less a hamburger heaven and more so hamburger purgatory

My parents went a few days ago and said it was very good, though they agreed with BN that the ambiance is....lacking. But they said they'd definitely get it to go in the future.

Also, helpful hint - they said one order of fries was more than sufficient for two people.

I didn't want to like the place because I'm kind of a homer but they are very good cheeseburgers.

I tend to like a place like Kincaids but I just stopped going because they are cash only....I friggin hate that when a place is so arrogant they think they can dictate the payment terms.

Like I carry around cash all day for a family of five?.

I'm not sure it's arrogance. A lot of mom and pop businesses don't use credit card systems because of the cost of the transaction. Especially on lower priced items.
