Yeah, That's what I highly suggested to him. It sounds like they are ready to finance $10,500 for a new system.

Just like You, before any major purchase is made we get several opinions, ask folks questions, and burn up the internet donig research.

Absolutely! I would not pay so much money because someone said so. Even if the A/C is already very old and really needs to be replaced, I would get bids on the work and then make my decision.
I did replaced A/C in my house few years ago. Several companies made a bid. There was difference of $4,500 between the highest and lowest bid.
I took a company from Devine. They did a terrific job.

I would've expected them to have done a divine job

I'm probably going to be looking for a new a/c unit soon. The extended warranty on mine ran out and it only made it one year without needing at least one major replacement.

Good Morning rd2007,

Our unit is a Trane, a little over 10 years old, and seems to be running fine. What brand do you all have and has it been without many or no problems? Although it wil be pricey I'm looking forward to a new unit when it's time due the the better SEER Ratings these days.

I'm sure you know but there is a Trane Store in Alamo Ranch Marketplace.

I'll have to tell you all about Cowboy's Heating andA/C next week. Due to the rain we have had to reschedule. We have a few bare spots around the unit and there is no doubt it will be a mess for the Technician and we can't have ANY mud in the house. My Wife will shoot both the A/C Guy and me.

BTW: I sincerely hope that you and your Family are doing much better although it will take time. I too know all to well how difficult it is to loose not a Dog but a Friend and Companion. Always keep in mind that you provided her with both good care and a whole lot of love. As you know reading Rainbow Bridge is very helpful both now and in the future.

I have a goodman and there is nothing good about it. It was new in 2002 and has had the inside coil replaced at least 6 times and the outside replaced once. The latest "fix" was a UV light to kill the algae on the coils and it's too early to tell if that will do anything. The previous "fix" was an inside coil with a special coating that didn't allow rust. I really liked that idea since it was chronic rusting that was causing the leaks. However, the coating increased algae growth and clogged up the drain in under a month, so they put an older style coil back with the UV light. I would've preferred the coated coil with the light, but I wasn't paying for it... Next one will probably be a Trane or other high end brand. The lower ones (like goodman) just suck donkey butt.

I highly recommend this Trane Store! Just replaced our 16 year old Trane with a new one with a higher SEER rating. The installation was done perfectly, the new unit is very efficient and the team that came to our home did a professional job. 100% all the way around.

That's GREAT to hear and when the time comes this will be the first place I visit. Maybe I'll just pop in some afternoon to see their products and ask many questions which is my nature. That can be good and bad but for me mainly bad since I will no doubt walk out dazed and confused. I get overloaded pretty quick.

I'm not prying but can you give me a BallPark figure on what you spent including Installation?

Thanks

I hope you can replace them in parts, like the inside first and the outside later. Buying the whole thing all at once would seriously suck. They're like small car priced..

From a novice's way of thinking (me), wouldn't you want to do it all at the same time?

I would think that you would get a better deal if everything is purchased at the same time. Maybe we could get a 0 Down and no payments for 12 months. Of course its paid off in that time to avoid the high interest rates.

yeah, but my outside coil is only about two years old. The inside one has been replaced the most and still continues to fail, so I would be most interested in getting rid of it first.
