She was right ..I was fine.

Those things were fun but semi-dangerous as I learned by trying it down the nearby hill on New Braunfels St. That was a dumb stunt but boys will be boys. We tried the same feat on a homemade go-kart at rush hour and that was definitely a no-no! Sometimes I wonder how we survived childhood back in the good ol' days before helmets, elbow, and knee pads etc. and the over anxious parents of today. Survival of the fittest maybe?

Are you referring to the hill on New Braunfels from Steel Elem down to Fair Ave maybe? We used to take skates and nail em to a 2x4 and down the hill at McCreless entrance from Gevers to Karotkins

There are more than a couple hills on New Braunfels and I should have been more specific. We cheated death both times on the hill down NB from Aransas toward Porter by Poe Jr. Hi. That go-kart stunt I mentioned earlier was just a lawn mower engine atop a trike wheeled platform with throttle cable my neighbor bud's dad built then turned us loose on. Talk about a kamikaze mission, man that was it and I may have been about 12 at that time. Roller skates on 2x4s is good stuff too, hey you gotta start somewhere.

I used to love those balls of dressing wrapped in turkey meat and covered in that yellow gravy. I also remember there was live music there in the form of a guy who played piano and sang. He had a radio show on the weekends and gave singing lessons as well. Later on I worked sat the toy store next door and went in for lunch.

Apologies for breaking the trend of the subject to be about older things, but does anyone have any pictures (inside or outside) of Windsor mall from the late '80s or early '90s, or pictures of the Toys "R" Us that was there as well? I think the Toys "R" Us is now a Conn's, or at least it was like a year or two ago. I don't drive by Walzem anymore but the last few times I have, it's broken my heart to see what happened to TRU and Windsor. Those were both pure joy when I was a kid. Windsor had to have been the best of the big major malls my parents took me to (Windsor, Ingram, North Star, Central and then Rolling Jokes). Not to mention having been immortalized in the film Cloak & Dagger. The Toys "R" Us was one of the original design stores as well, with the rainbow bars and the brown shingled rooftop front. Back when you still had to take a paper ticket from the displays up to the front to get the actual item, which was really great fun as a kid because it meant you were getting something really good. I wish I still had some of those paper tickets. And that I could get a big slice of Luca Pizza or an Orange Julius. I do still have an Aladdin's Castle token though... Anyways, if anyone has any pics, please share!

Windsor is always a great and welcome topic. You brought up an interesting topic with Cloak & Dagger...correct me if I am wrong...it has been a number of years since I have seen it. But don't they only show like a price tag that says "Windsor Park Mall", but the scenes from inside that mall are of another mall?
As far as your photos...if you look back in the original GBNF in SA thread or do a search...there are several old photos of the Movie Theater..across from the Legendary Luca's Pizza and next to Aladdins.

I helped install the projection equipment at the UA Cine Cinco, which is what the theatre was originally named. It had some very unique German projection equipment that no other theatres in San Antonio had, not even it's sister UA theatres at South Park and Ingram. When Santikos took over, he changed the name to Windsor Park 5.

Oh wow, I never knew. I just researched it online and yes, the actual mall used was the Glendale Galleria (California). Oh well... It's Windsor in the movie! lol

Thanks for the pointer to the first thread. I tried doing a search but the feature doesn't seem to bring up actual posts, just the threads containing the keywords, so I'll have to sit down tonight and read through the entire thread.

Default I remember Richies Fish place,

We used to get take out there on Friday too. Not that I am Catholic,
I am not but we used to eat there. Right across the street from the park and Lone Star Brewery.

It was some of the best seafood I remember! It was always crowded on Fridays, too. We would call it in so we didn't have to wait.
