Last time I went to one was in 1965. On S.Flores St. close to the Bolner's
Store were two nearby.
I miss that routine of going there. All the aroma of the hair tonics & the
radio playing in the background.
And no matter how much I would tell them..."just a little on the side"
they would cut too much.
I had to go on a regular basis because the public schools prohibited sideburns,
ducktails . Crewcuts & flat-tops were accepted. I also loved to wear the tan
bright almost red/orange leather wing-tip shoes.

You could smell the aroma a mile away...
I wonder how many shops are there anymore ?

alpine used to be on the right side of the cable car rides at the zoo.it zig zagged up and around the backside of the tea gardens, and then back down to st marys street. i guess some parts of it are still open. haven't been that way in a while.

can see part of the word. The location for the Aztec Theater downtown was
St. Mary's & Commerce. Based on the movie on the billboard I would place
the year @ 1946. The other photo of the Aztec Theater, I would place at a
later date, based on the movie. This theater originally showed first run movies
back then.

What I would give to go back in time....
I would cross the street, pass the Potchernick's store & enjoy this...
you are correct about the year. the photo of my mom and her two friends were taken in 1946. she was 17 years old. went to brackenridge.
