Ran across some racing memorabilia today. Might be of interest to some.

Point sheet from 1971. Recognize a few names on that.

On the attached driver list, there are several names I recognize from the Pan Am Speedway, when it was located near the Austin Hwy @ Wurzbach. Don Fowler, Buddy Yantis (who was terribly burned during a race in the 50's) and Fred Elbel are a few who go back to Pan Am Speedway racing in the 1950's

Default Gone but not forgotten

To add to the list of Gone But Not Forgotten, can be the memory of a leisurely drive from San Antonio to say, Austin or Georgetown.

Last week I drove I-35 from North Star Mall to downtown Georgetown at the lightening speed of
TWO HOURS AND FORTY MINUTES! Absolutely amazing! Perhaps had I used the tollway (Buda to ? exit) some time might have been saved, but I'd rather take 281 north than drive halfway to Houston to connect!

In the future, any trips to or from north of Georgetown to San Antonio will be by way of 281! If it's going to take over two hours, I'd rather be driving than sitting in "new" Texas traffic on I-35!

(...wistfully remembering driving from San Pedro/281 and Loop 13 (look that one up) and Austin in little over an hour.... never to be experienced again... )

Soon to be gone and not forgotten will be the name Old Highway 90. The city council okayed a name change against the wishes of most business people on Old Hwy 90. I worked at the Capitan Drive In that was on the corner of Old Hwy 90 W and 36th street in the early 70s. Great memories there.

Just like renaming Durango St, I just can't figure out why if they want to honor someone with a street named after them they cannot name one of the many NEW streets after them.

I do not like this change at all.

Not sure if this was mentioned previously, but im will miss Kate's Frosting. I loved their cupcakes.

Bird Bakery has decent cupcakes, but nothing compared to the red velvet cupcakes at Kate's Frosting.

There's 6 or 7 near the top I recognize. !971 is possibly the year I went there.. one of the only couple times I'd gone.

It was a quick trip even in the 70's. I avoid I-35 north out of SA like the plague now.

There are maybe a handful but some have 50 or 60 Million. My wallet hasn't gotten any thicker.

I hate that. When something has a name they should leave it. If someone wants a street named for them they should build it. I'm quite sure there is already a Barrera street. There is south of Durango in Victoria courts.
