...No idea when or where the Bean Burger originated,
other than Sills' daughter told me that someone came into the Snack Shack (from Calif),
told her Dad about Bean Burgers, and he improvised from there.

I had forgotten about the Chihuahua Dogs until I read the Obit linked below.

I hope you enjoyed those shows. i was just a young kid but as much as you remember looking for it each year i was looking foward to taking part of it every year. It does take alot of work and many overnights.

OK, it's 5am and y'all have cost me yet ANOTHER night of no sleep!! I LOVE this site!
Will have to think on things to add that haven't been mentioned. I grew up early on at Medina Base. Later spent a lot of time around SAC (San Pedro High) going through the RTF course there. Am recently relocated here and arming myself with maps and info from here and other sites for a lot of driving and reaquainting myself with old haunts.
I haven't read all the pages yet, so I hope I won't repeat anything, but I remember
Valley Hi Mall
the research monkeys on 410
the XMAS village in the basement of Joske's (AMAZING!!)
the original(?) Taco Cabana at San Pedro and Hildebrand
Mama's Cafe botanas
Maggies (Originally Reeds Red Derby) with the little train going round and round the bar
FIZZ nightclub (I was a "Fizz Fox", still have my card!)
See Rodney McDowell play the lead in Harvey and Phyllis Diller at the Fiesta Dinner Playhouse, and (vaguely)
swimming at San Pedro Springs as a kid.
Oh, and my folks met at Bun and Barrel where my Dad was the fry cook and my mom the car hop. He said she had "the cutest walkin' away" look he'd ever seen.
I'll probably remember more after I do my "getting to REknow you drives.

Quick question for Mudpuddle:

My Uncle was a very active musician MANY years ago. He played with a lot of future famous people like the guys from Sir Douglas Quintet and the Bob Wills band.
There was a rock building high on top of a hill on the way out to Medina Lake that my mother pointed out to me once and told me that her brother was babysitting her on several occasions but had a 'gig' to play that night up there in that rock building and would take her along. Could that possibly be the Mountain Top place you are referring too?

On a side note: My mom sang for a talent show in high school (Sam Houston) and her piano accompianist was Augie Meyers.

Been up there 3 or 4 times over the years. North of I-10 just west of Camp Bullis exit. Behind the old Cervantes Arco Station. Haven't been out there in quite a while. Think they dozed it flat to make room for more Big Wig Shops. My dad was a musician could have played there sometime. LOL....Barbie...keep in mind this is part two! Have you seen part one? They had to lock it, but it's still accessible. This LONG threads become difficult to manage, so we had to shelve part one and start over! Lots of great info on that one too.....if you haven't already seen it! You'll have to search the site for it to find it. Since it's locked we can't bring it back to the top to read.

(I wish there was a way to bring topics up to the top for "read only" threads. Lots' of good info CDers are missing!)

Thanks GW, that's fantastic. Knew it had to be something like that ..commercial looking kitchen inside and giant rock patio.. I figured it might be that old. Thought it may have been a speak easy or casino hide away.
