Mud,
I would l love to see your salvage items, Please email me we can exchange info if you like. The pictures are unbelievable and thoes flamingo's are treasures!! There are alot of avenues to sell your items. Ebay is not the best way to sell these things, a private collector would be your best bet and to get top dollar.

It's a shame that the room was destroyed harrell.
I didn't post the pix to sell these,
only to show the artwork.
All of the other pictures were for the most part - ashes.

I guess there is nothing left at the site. Is the entrance arch gone as well?
Cheers! M2

The arch is all that remains. The land where the building used to be is perfectly flat and covered with greener grass than you commonly see this time of year.

roaring 20's property
Suspicious fire. Talk of new Italian ownership of property. Greener grass at land site. Hmmm, maybe Jimmy Hoffa is buried there? Just joking. The Roaring 20's was good-to-go. Too bad. Anyone know of any places with similar music, atmosphere and clientele in San Antonio?

I am devasted to hear that this historic building was burned down. We used to live on Blanco and 1604 and everytime we drove pass I felt an intense curiousity about the place. But, I never stopped. Now I wish I had. Those pictures were beautiful and thanks for all the history related to it provided by some of you guys. I wish it was declared a historic landmark and was preserved. I, too would like a copy of some of the pictures, a few color, a few black and white from both of the posters that took pictures. Let me know if you would be willing to provide them to me.

Any questions, ask away. My grandfather built the 20's and I grew up there. My family owned it from 1947-2007.

Really? I used to live right behind Steve Honigblum (for over six years) and know both by living in the neighborhood and by reasearching bcad.org that Steve formed a business entity, Honigblum Corp to purchase the property. County Records show that he purchased it on 01/17/06. You can pull up the property on bcad.org using the property ID 511776 and the geographic ID 12750-000-0030 or just searching using the name Honigblum Corp. So your family did not own it in 2007 - not even most of 2006. So either you are mistaken, weren't in the loop concerning the sale or not really a member of the family that sold it in January of 2006. The county records don't lie and are available to all to review.
From the time I moved into Churchill Forest in the summer of 2001 the Roaring 20's was a condemned building that had been abandoned for years. Steve purchased it and in mid 2006 began building a very large expensive home on a bluff overlooking the Salado Creek (or dry creekbed as the case would be today). The building "caught" on fire on July 4th of 2007 and was then turned into a beautiful park like estate. Both the residents of Churchill and numerous fire department officials (off the record) feel that all indications point that the fire was due to arson...but no one was ever charged.
If your family owned this property - the question for this thread would be - why did you let such a nice historic building fall into ruin? Sad really.

It was 2006, my mistake. The property is subdivided into two parts and was purchased by my grandfather in 1963. The home (which my dad built in 1984) at 1726 Longfield is one and the roaring 20's is another. The Roaring 20's was purchased by Honigblum in 2006. I believe that Steve then combined the two properties. My Uncle lived on premises until then at which time he moved to CO. I personally lived at the home at 1726 Longfield from 1984 until 1997 when my dad passed away and the family sold the home to Honigblum in 1998. I am also on the news footage of when the property was burned being interviewed. The building was basically original and untouched with only minor improvements and repairs made along the way. My grandfather was a bit eccentric and even though my dad prodded him to replace and rebuild things over the years, my grandfather ultimately decided against it every time. It was officially closed around 1997 when my uncle unknowingly made an error in the licensing for their renewal of the liquor license. TABC came in and closed it down on a friday night. After which a torrent of bad things came pouring in. Everything my grandfather hadn't replaced through the years started snowballing. My uncle actually spent over $150,000 to Davila Electric trying to bring the building's electrical up to code. After which, a building inspector came out to inspect the building to approve it for operation and condemned it stating that the structure was unsafe. Basically everything needed to be remodeled from the ground up. My uncle received several bids that were well over $1,000,000. Around 2002, the city re-zoned the roaring 20's and took 35% of the property into a flood plain. The flood plain now went right through the dancefloor in the dining room which is absurd. The water had never come even up to the barracks before (even the 2000 flood). Trying to get a loan on a building that resides in a flood plain is impossible. The family decided at that time to sell the property the Hunter's Inn was located on in order to drum up enough to rebuild the 20's. It was around this time my grandfather suffered a stroke. He subsequently died and the family was hit with an enormous tax hit as the taxes had fallen way behind. At this time, the decision was made to sell the property. They were in talks for awhile with the city to extend the reach of the park to the property but they always fell through as they only were offering pennies on the dollar for the property. Which street do you live on Banker?
