Default Stevens HS just got capped...

Just heard on WOAI that Stevens HS is capped for the next few years! Any students moving into the area will be bussed to TAFT or other schools in the area.... Didn't catch all the details but I'm sure they can be found on WOAI's web..... they also mentioned "you should check with your Realtor to be sure". Having a spouse in the biz, I've got to ask when were you going to tell them!.... Sorry but there's not emotion icon to express my mood

That's exactly what I said to my "otherhalf" this morning when he came home with the news (he works graveyards). I'm just startin' to get me coffe and the eyeballs open, so gonna do some research (nisd website). I *thought* the Potranco HS was part of the '07 bond??????

(Although I'm "in the biz" as he put it, I don't work in regular residential sales, so haven't been following this like I should have been. )

Default "Potranco West HS"

yep, I remembered correctly, it's part of the '07 Bond. (Remember to vote May12th!!) So are all those new elementary and middle schools for the far west area. Here's a link; http://bond.nisd.net/pdf/2007/fliers/SchoolsMap.pdf
(the map with the proposed schools). Interesting, whenever we went out to Alamo Ranch, Redbird Ranch, BellaVista, etc. the sales people *rarely* emphasized that the schools they were showing on their site maps where proposed. Granted, given the bond history in Northside it will probably pass, still.......

Nothing on Stevens' or Northside's websites about the cap yet. Told my son to keep his ears open about it today and to actually bring home anything he was given for once.

Told ya guys that Stevens was packed to the gills already!!

The Express-News had an article in the paper today concerning Stevens and its possible capping. It mentioned that if you were in your home by May 31, then you have no worries for Stevens. If you move into the area after that date, then there's a chance your kids could be bussed to either Taft or Warren High. Here's the link.

The newest high school, Potranco West, can't be built soon enough. Once all the newer areas outside 1604 are zoned away from Stevens, attendance at Stevens should level out but that's still not going to happen until 2010.

Here's a link from NISD which shows where the capped areas are and which school will handle the overflow.

I didn't realize Potranco West is to be built in the area shown on that map. I thought it would actually be off of Potranco. It'll be interesting to see what all will get built near the new Wiseman extension and how it will affect the older part of Westcreek!

Default Vote Vote Vote

It is so important that the residents of NISD get out and vote on May 12th in the Bond Election. In the past the elections have not had much trouble passing but that was due in part (possibly) to the fact that they special elections. This year the bond election will be on a general election day which means possibly you will have voters who may not be informed on the Bond issues. GET THE WORD OUT!
