78258 is upper middle class with homes from $300 to $2mil. Generally, l tell newbies to look at the greater area bounded by I10, 410, 1604 and Wetmore - you should find something that will fit your housing needs, and the entire area has good schools.

I grew up in DC (vienna) and just moved from Manhattan, SA traffic in nothing! Traffic is always a pain but... I live in 78261, Cibolo Canyon off stone oak. 281 is a pain and it is all relative, I work downtown and for the wonderful lifestyle and price I would not change a thing....Good schools as well

At 9:33 pm, April 6, there were 76 sub-200k single family homes for sale in 78258. There were 302 priced at 299999 and below.
The people who live in the half million dollar homes may not like it, but there's plenty of choices for families making average $ and who want to send their kids to top notch schools like Barbara Bush Middle!

I was gonna say the price range he stated was way too high for that zip code...
I'm a fan of 78248, but I'm biased since that's where I live. The area is nice, without all the Stone Oak / Hwy 281 / 1604 madness and has the added bonus of easy access to UTSA.

I'm in 78258 and there are plenty of houses right now under $300,000. Not all of 78258 is off the 281. We are right off of and commute mostly on 1604 and use access roads when there is traffic, you will learn back roads & short cuts quickly. I'm rarely if ever sitting in traffic and I've been here 5 years in September. The previous poster is right, traffic is nothing compared to DC.
I would look in Deerfield, Rogers Ranch, The Vineyard, Sonterra all in the NEISD school district.

check out McMillin Homes 'The Presidio'. Same area code off 1604 and NW Military. We are building there now. Great new family neighborhood. Homes are about 215-375k. They are working on a decked out amenity center as I type.

I have been tracking real estate in NE SA since October. I discovered the Quarry at Iron Mountain last month and became serious about the neighborhood a week or so ago. I drove by the other day and discovered that it was a KB home. This turned me off at first but there are some really good deals so i am willing to stay open minded. I used to be a loan officer so I am familiar with the business but there are a lot of homes for sale in the Quarry and that concerns me a bit. Should I really consider the Quarry or keep searching??

There is an ENORMOUS thread about that very neighborhood. Search for "building a home in Iron Mountain" and it should pop up. Also there is a poster called Banker on here who lives in that community and was the starter/frequent poster of the above thread; it might be worthwhile to DM him.
