I believe they cause pain and swelling if they bite, but not much more than that.

I have the ones like Jules showed. I hate it when I am working in a flower bed and one comes crawling out My kids will say " Mom, I didn't know you could move that fast"

I haven't seen one in about 3 years :knock on wood:.

I have never seen the smaller ones like Miche111e pictured

Now THAT'S what they looked like!

(And no, I am NOT lying.)
I found one of those under some bricks I had on the ground behind my house, and just about jumped out of my skin. The thing tore off running but I managed to kill it after bomarding its hiding place with Raid.

If one of those ever shows up in my house, I will leave the city!!

They must like bricks. I found one in a pile of bricks too. YUCK!!!

Now you know that you shouldn't have killed it because you were invading IT'S territory

I'll keep that in mind when I get my house,
just put a few brick in the backyard and keep a "centipede sledgehammer" ready for whenever I need to let some anger out.

I'm pretty sure poisons that kill spiders should take care of them as well.

Now which one? The smaller frilly looking pede or the honking 8" orange one with yellow legs and a red head and forked tail?

I also have never seen the smaller one that michelle posted....but we did see the bigger ones scaling the rock cliff embankment at Lost Maples State Park. Ane we were quite a bit away from them....on the other side of the river!

I'm getting the picture that they like rock/stone/brick....etc. Creepy for sure!
