Default Parks in and around the near westside

I bought a new book to read during my lunch break and am looking for a good place to escape to read it. Home is too far away, so that's a no. I know Woodlawn Lake is close and I'm considering the short 2 mile drive over there tomorrow with a sandwich and a juice box to read, but I just want to make sure I'm not missing any other parks or hideaways that anyone knows about.

Within 5-10 minute drive from 78207 is probably the best option. Oh, and safe, obviously..even if it is around 12-2pm you never know what is going to be going on. Any ideas?

I don't know exactly where you work (obviously) but quickly looking at google maps for that zip I saw:
Apache Creek park (Elmendorf lake is nearby it)
Smith park
Cassiano Park
Amistad park
Father Benevides park
Martinez State park
West End park
Ojeda park

But I don't have any personal knowledge of any of them sorry!

Thanks! I did the same thing. I know from experience that Cassiano Park is section 8 housing (I've been there...I'll pass...safe during the day *I think* but me just sitting around would be odd). Apache Creek Park is also an option. I'm just confused as to where to park the car there.
