My husband is working in San Antonio and we are going to be relocating there. I am flying in on April 17 and I want to go to Fiesta on Sunday the 19th. I don't really understand abt. where everything is. Is it all around the Riverwalk area or different areas of town. I you could only come one day and could only do afew things what would be the best thing to go to? I do want to go to the arts and crafts, what area is it in? What kind of music is going on? Anything else you can add would be great!
Thanks,yorkiemomm

It is really a conglomeration of different events all over town during an 11 day period.

See:

Here are the specific events on the 19th.

First, Fiesta isn't centralized - but most of the good stuff happens fairly close to SA.

There won't be much going on that Sunday (it's the first weekend of Fiesta). Oyster Bake (a big, rowdy party at St. Mary's University) is on Friday & Saturday - if you want that experience.

If Sunday is your only day, I'd start with the Mariachi Mass at San Fernando. Then, have a big, boozy lunch at El Mirador or Taco Haven, a nap, then head to the Charreada - a Mexican rodeo that starts in the late afternoon.

I would steer clear of the "Taste of New Orleans". Let's just say.....what they serve there would get you run out of NO.

Also.........if you're feeling REALLY adventurous.......I think the Tejano Explosion is a BLAST.

Have fun - welcome to SA!

I give two BIG thumbs up to the Fiesta Art and Craft Fair at the Southwest School of Art and Craft. It will be going on on Sunday and it's a great event.

The King William fair on staurday is very nice.
Oyster Bake on friday is nice because of the smaller crowd.
NIOSA is ok but gets veryyyy packed with people later in the evening. Very hard to walk around.
The Market Square area is cheap, good music and food but gets a little rowdy at night.
Stay away from the carnival....too many little, wannabe gangsters.
The Fiesta Flambeu night parade on the riverwalk is also good.

Jake -

A well-intentioned correction: Flambeau isn't on the Riverwalk; it's on the same route as Battle of Flowers.
