Firstly, let me say thanks to the "relocation sticky thread", a majority of my questions have been answered.

I'm in Corpus Christi -- my husband, three small children and pesky little dog are looking to try to relocate to San Antonio. Ideally, the husband really wants to get on with the HEB Plant located around IH37/IH35, so naturally we were looking for a good neighborhood, awesome schools and a decent commute. I was browsing Windcrest and at the suggestion of various posts, I decided to check out Schertz which I fell in love with! Seems perfect and currently are some affordable houses.

Anyone who knows Corpus traffic knows that there's no congestion unless there's a car wreck, so this is going to be a new experience for us. I'm trying to figure out how long of a commute it is from Schertz to the IH37/35 area. I know I've read it's 12 miles to downtown, which doesn't seem long at ALL for someone living in the city that I do, but I realize that traffic is much different up there, so I'm just trying to find out a general idea. If anyone could toss in their $.02, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Finally, someone who actually read the thread, gleaned knowledge from it, then posted a question or two that wasn't answered. Bravo!!
A lot depends on the hour that you'll be leaving. You haven't provided that, yet.

::curtsies:: I try.

To be honest, I'm not really sure, but I'll go with a regular 8am-5pmish commute just to be on the safe side.

Actually, if you're talking about the main HEB plant then it is near the I35/410 exchange area off of Pan Am Expressway.

4710 N Pan Am Expressway
San Antonio TX, 78218

Here is the Texas Transguide website where you can check freeway conditions and estimate travel times:

TransGuide: Freeway Travel Times (http://www.transguide.dot.state.tx.us/TravelTimes/freeways.php - broken link)

Good luck and welcome to San Antonio!

We moved up here from Ingleside in Aug 2007 and LOVE Schertz! I travel approx. 11 miles down I-35 from Schertz Pkwy to the Eisenhauer exit. With light traffic and no accidents it normally takes me 15-20 minutes. (The best time to leave Schertz is 6-6:30am. After that, the traffic becomes very heavy. The most congested times are between 6:45am-8:00am) The evening commute is no picnic either. (Imagine SPID at 5pm magnified 4-5 times!) If I leave work between 5pm and 6pm, the commute is anywhere from 30-45 minutes, without accidents. There are alternate routes you can take, but the commute time can often be the same due to traffic lights.
I do miss the lack of congestion in the Corpus area, but the conveniences we have in S.A. make it all worthwhile. Traffic is just something you have to live with here. Best wishes for a smooth move!

Thank you so much for the reply! It's great to know someone from the CC area who is up in Schertz and can help me relate. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we can move this summer, but jeez, I can't believe we're in April already! I'm also glad to know that you love Schertz! I'm feeling really confident that that's the area we'll be happy with.
