Default Great Neighborhoods by Lackland AFB

Hi,
We are looking at a possible transfer to Lackland AFB. We have heard the area in not so great so I would love any input on neighborhoods in or around the area. We understand that my spouse will probably have some sort of commute. Would like to try and avoid heavy traffic and no more than a 45 minute commute. I have one child that will start Kinder and the other I would like to find a great preschool ("Mothers Day Out" 2-3 days per week 9-12noon type). As far as homes we are looking at a price range anywhere from $150-400. I know thats a wide range but we want to make sure we are in a great family oriented type neighborhood and relatively safe area.

Thanks!

But, just to calm your fears, there are tons of great places to live within a half-hour's drive of Lackland. I've been stationed here twice, and retired here and still work on the south end of Lackland, and we live up by Helotes and I can get from my house to the Security Hill gate in about 20 minutes (granted, that is at 5:30-6:00am!). Still, in the 'old days' when I came to work later, I could easily make it in 30 minutes or less (sounds like I am delivering pizza, doesn't it?).

Get a good realtor and they’ll help you find exactly what you are looking for. If you need a recommendation, send me a direct message (left click on my name to the left to send one). We last came here from Belgium, and used a realtor that was highly recommended by a good friend. The guy worked wonders, and we found our perfect house within half a day (and this was back when it was a seller's market).

Cheers! M2
