I see there are several community colleges here in San Antonio and am wondering where the students live that attend them? Are these traditional students? Do they live with parents? With the cost of rent so high I wonder if there are "dorm type" rooms available to them. How would a student, say 18 or 19 be able to afford to live alone while going to community college and only working part time? How would a landlord allow them to, what documentation would they need?

There are no dorm type of rooms available. Apartment complexes do have student discounts but they are usually 5%. For documentation, they need a copy of the current semester's bill, at least what from I've heard from apartment agents. Most students who work part time while going to school will either live with parents or relatives or split the rent in a apartment with a roommate. Some students see that affordability is an issue so they go to school full time and work full time. It's definitely a full load!

From my experiences at SAC & St. Philip's a lot of the students are either nontraditional or they're living at home with their parents. A lot of the students usually work while going to school. One going to school full-time and working part-time probably wouldn't be able to afford living on their own. If they got some help from their parents or loan they could probably do it. Most of the people I meet while going there were from SA.

A community college is designed for commuters. Dorms and such are usually found on or near universities.

I've heard both in the media and in conversations with Alamo Colleges employees that the local community colleges are bursting at the seams with students this year. It's the most affordable college option for families with tight budgets.
