For a good honky tonk, check out Floore Country Store in Helotes; and if you have the time, a trip out to Bandera is worth the effort. Plenty of places to buy boots out there, plus it is "The Cowboy Capital of the World." It is easy to get to, just go to the outer loop (1604) and take highway 16 west (and you'll go through Helotes in the process!).

I think the other missions are just as interesting as the Alamo, so they are well worth the effort as well. Get the map so you don't miss the Espada Aqueduct, but definitely do the Mission Trail.

And I wouldn't skip out on some of the "touristy" areas such as the Rivercenter or Riverwalk. Both are wonderful places and shouldn't be missed. Now, such attractions as the wax museum and Davy Crockett's Wild Ride (or whatever it is called) are worth skipping, but others such as the Buckhorn Saloon are defintely places to hit. Spend at least one day walking around downtown San Antonio, two if you have the time. If you are only here for the weekend, I would suggest one day downtown and the other going to Bandera via Helotes.

One last point, Fiesta just started, so expect crowds downtown!

Cheers! M2
