Summer Jobs / 1604 Potranco Culebra
Good Afternoon,
I've got a clean cut well versed, Catholic School educated, 19 year old UTSA Freshman who is looking for a summer job. He has worked at Sea World for a couple of summers and has done the fast food thing.
Do any of you know of any summer jobs in the area?
THANKS

Lots of retail stores he can work at there at Alamo Ranch. Has he ever considered waiting tables? I did this throughout college. Olive Garden is in the area, or he can go a bit further out and hit the restaurants near 151/410 or along I10/1604.

What are his interests? In high school through college, I held the following jobs:
Wrangler (cows can be smarter than people)
Janitor (in a nursing home...yikes)
Wedding photographer (mostly led to divorces)
Location Scout (slapping mosquitos looking for the perfect film shoot)
Movie extra (we all thought we were gonna be stars)
Museum docent (alone in a warehouse full of antiques at night is scary)
Computer lab assistant (formatted hard drives..oops)
Production Assistant (responsible for broken staplers)
Tutor (student knew more than me)
Tour Guide (job got boring so i made up stories)
Construction worker (broke more things than I built)
Fertilizer loading for cropdusters (probably why i'm weird)
Usually colleges have a good job bank to help.

I know it's not the Potranco/1604 area....and I think the announcements may have just closed but the bases usually have a summer hire program for students (has to be attending college at least half time I think). I know Lackland received funding (my office was approved for a summer hire) but I believe those announcements just closed. If he's going to school, have him go to usajobs and check to see if there are announcements out there for summer hires. They hire for the summer to do everything from clerical type work to laborers (cutting grass, etc).

Northwest Vista College has a summer kids' camp and they are looking for assistants. If he's done any babysitting, he'd probably have a shot.

If he is a college student, have him check the summer hires at Lackland. They are listed for students who are on summer break, and pay much better than the other jobs...plus they are "intern" type positions that might lead to some skill/interest in training for further employment.
Studentjobs.gov :
They change daily (and honestly start the listings about Feb/Mar timeframe for that summer, so might be short pickings this late in the season, but all the bases have them. If Randolph, Ft Sam is not an issue, might be wanting to check it out there too!)
Good luck!
