The strain was discovered in swine in the US in 1998. The strain that was discovered in the swine had been discovered in HUMANS in the early 70s.

No confirmation of "swine" but I do have a positive for flu a AND b (whatever that means).
My Dr. talked to the state & they advised my whole family to stay in until we get definate results.
We are all having a round of tamiflu. Anyone wanna bring a huge pot of chicken soup (drop & run ;-) ?
Okay, going to lay down now. I hope you all stay healthy! I feel like a piniata AFTER the party.

Ack, that sucks! Sending speedy recovery vibes to you and hoping no one else gets sick.
We have 4 unconfirmed cases here in Nueces County as of right now. Since yesterday I've been experiencing sore throat and body aches, but no fever luckily.

Northside ISD sent home 88 students today with "flu-like symptoms," according to KSAT Newsroom (ksatnews) on Twitter .

My sister-in-law is calling the hotline right now - she has most of the symptoms. She's a teacher too so...
I kind of feel icky, too, but I'm sure it's allergies.

Thanks for the recovery vibes. We are in the NW area in NISD. So far our school aged daughter is fine but the ped. called in tamiflu for her just incase & she's not going to school until this clears up. The school nurse thought we should still send her but the other admin. agreed it was best for us to keep her home.

okay for those of you with probable cases - what are the symptoms?
I've got a 2.5yo who's been sick for a week with fever, severe headaches, lack of eating, Nausea, and general not feeling well overall. No cough or respiratory symptoms. It seems to come and go - one day is some better, the next is worse.
I was supposed to take her back into the pedi today, but with the whole flu bug and her possibly having it I'm not since we use VIA to get around. Her pedi is refusing to do a home visit since medicaid won't cover it.

It's not up to NISD officials, it's up to the local health authority to make that decision. NISD doesn't have a choice in the LHA declares the schools closed.
However, it's not a decision the LHA makes lightly.
