Forget the petition. What's really needed is a distribution infrastructure. If you work for the company, tell them to get a move on getting that Denton distribution center fully operational!

Texas and Florida have cities that boast consumers Trader Joe's covets, but insiders say the current distribution infrastructure makes it difficult for the company to efficiently get products to those states.

Let me say that since HEB ran Kroger and Albertsons out of town and ran a few other grocery stores out of business, i.e. Handy Andy, Centenos, Model Market, Piggly Wiggly, why on earth would a grocery store consider the San Antonio market knowing they will lose millions trying to compete? Not only would they compete with HEB, but now Super Target and Walmart.
I had heard that Kroger lost over $50 million dollars trying to expand here and that was 1990's dollars.

Trader Joe's serves a niche market, so unless H.E.B. decides to try to beat them in that too, I think the chain could do fine here.

Exactly! Trader Joe's knows it can't compete in the SA market, which is why it's not here. Simple enough.

It's obviously not in the whole state of Texas for logistical reasons.

If you and your wife are already in the grocery business, why don't you just apply for a job with HEB. I think you would have a lot better shot getting hired at HEB than getting Trader Joe's to open stores in San Antonio.

I hate to break your heart...but in Texas, most of the employees at grocery stores are minimum wage high school kids. They dont pay bag boys/cashiers $25/hr like they do in California. There is no grocery worker union here.

I don't know the pay for HEB but I do disagree with HEB's majority being high school students.

I am seeing a lot of diversity in the workforce at each HEB I go to. High school, college, middle aged, etc. I am guessing they pay above minimum wage, but certainly not $25/hr.

Well, the employees may not be high school students but their recent advertising jingle sure sounds like it was written by one!

"You can't spell Texas without H-E-B?!?!?"

Well, maybe the 'E' but I don't think the 'H' or 'B' are necessary!

Here, everyone's brainwashed.

Trader Joe's would be a dream come true. I love shopping there! I just can't see it catching on here, because it seems like EVERYONE is so brainwashed by HEB. It's so annoying.
