Let me say that since HEB ran Kroger and Albertsons out of town and ran a few other grocery stores out of business, i.e. Handy Andy, Centenos, Model Market, Piggly Wiggly, why on earth would a grocery store consider the San Antonio market knowing they will lose millions trying to compete? Not only would they compete with HEB, but now Super Target and Walmart.

Trader Joe's serves a niche market, so unless H.E.B. decides to try to beat them in that too, I think the chain could do fine here.

If you and your wife are already in the grocery business, why don't you just apply for a job with HEB. I think you would have a lot better shot getting hired at HEB than getting Trader Joe's to open stores in San Antonio.

I hate to break your heart...but in Texas, most of the employees at grocery stores are minimum wage high school kids. They dont pay bag boys/cashiers $25/hr like they do in California. There is no grocery worker union here.

I don't know the pay for HEB but I do disagree with HEB's majority being high school students.
I am seeing a lot of diversity in the workforce at each HEB I go to. High school, college, middle aged, etc. I am guessing they pay above minimum wage, but certainly not $25/hr.
