Once completed all greeways will connect forming a loop. Modeled after greeways in Portland, Denver and Raleigh, NC. Other pedestrian friendly areas and hike and bike trails in San Antonio, 12 mile historic Hike and Bike Mission Trail, 15 mile Riverwalk expansion. San Antonio is doing a good job improving it's parklands.

Too bad none lead to downtown. I'd like to be able to bike from UTSA Main campus to dowtown on the greenway I've only used the Leon Creek Greenway and though it has a few years until it's completed it is nice. It connects to at least 3 different parks along the way. I'd like to see it connect with La Cantera and The Rim by extending it north about 2 miles past 1604.

Also if trails were added to Maverick Creek (runs along Babcock on UTSA propoerty) there would be a full loop. A nice set of off-road bike trails make SA much more attractive and encourage physical acitivity. It could be similar to the Buffalo Bayou trails in Houston.

Thank the taxpayers and voters, too. They agreed to the new taxes/bonds that support the linear parks initiative.

The second phase of the Medina Greenway will open next month.

New trail along Medina River (http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local_news/New_trail_along_Medina_River.html - broken link)

By 2012 Leon Creek greenway will extend about 16 miles and reach from 1604 to South of 410 (broken by Lackland AFB).

Salado Creek Greenway will extend over 22 miles from North to South (broken by Fort Sam).

Medina River will extend about 13 miles from Hwy 16, around the Toyota plant, to Mitchell Lake.

Add that to the mentioned 27 miles in hike and bike trails being built you've got almost 80 miles of new trails. That doesn't include miles of trails available at the 180+ parks spread across SA.

No wonder National Geographic ranked us one of the 12 best adventure cities!

Beat that Austin!

When I get back from the ride I am leaving on in five minutes I will have hit 3 out of 4 of those linear creek ways in the last 3 days. The land acquired for their development has opened up a lot of natural surface trails for mountain bikers and hikers!!

I left my house on my Mountain bike and road 22miles following the linear creekway today. They are actively extending the Leon Creek portion South from Bandera road towards Devils Den/Loop 410 and North from Babcock to Hausemen road..

Goofing on some rocks in the old Devils Den area today.

Does anyone know if SA has looked at the creek bed Just outside 1604 between NW Military HWY and Bitters? I want to say it would just be a northerly extension of the Salado Creek trails.

It's directly north of Paesano's Park Way and Blattman Elementary School...

I ride Salado Creek by Wurzbach and Blanco. I haven't seen the connection leading to McAllister park. Can someone cue me to where to pick up that leg?

It's not built yet. It probably won't go in until the Wurzbach Parkway extension across 281 is constructed, since it will be adjacent and follow nearly the same route.
