Not trying to sound rude but you obviously have no idea what I am talking about. It's not that hard of a concept. I have no problem with showcasing culture or pride in culture, that's not my beef.

Of course advertisers pay for publications. The publications charge for ad space. It's one of the ways a publication makes money. The publications are privately owned, but advertising is probably their biggest revenue producer.

Your beef seems to be that you don't like a latina beauty pageant because it celebrates one culture and excludes others. My point is that they're just doing that the German club started 100 years ago.

This hottest latina thing was just a jumping off point to a bigger issue. How many times do I have to say it? Forgot this hottest latina nonsense and figure out why I said what I said.

They don't pay for the publication, the owner of the publication does, the advertisers pay to be put in the publication, the owner makes profit off advertisements.

I am hispanic and I find the contest pretty insulting. I am not from San Antonio, but from what I saw yesterday, the news channels and newspaper seem to be behind this contest? Yesterday while at the Social security office I overheard two woman( both hispanic, both over 200 lbs, both with the worst eye makeup of yellow and green and black, both with atleast three kids and both no more than twenty-two years old. Everything that makes me sad for my race) talk about the contest like it was the superbowl.
I am embarresed for us, as a people. What is next, a taco eating contest or best latina tatto?
Expect more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't believe LemonFresh was insulting the actual "contest" she (or he...not sure as of yet) was just pointing out that there are a lot of Latino types of events in San Antonio and that there are not too many events dedicated to other cultures that get lots of press in town. It was by no means meant to be taken as a slight at the Latino culture or heritage or what makes San Antonio, San Antonio, it was a simple observation.
And I agree. There are a lot Latino events in the city. You have like 50 to choose from every day. If I were to have kids and wanted to teach them about their "Swedish" Texan ancestry (which is the minority in SA...the white people...) without going to the Institute of Texan cultures I would be SOL...seriously. It's just a fact of life here.
And yes, of course Latino based things sell, because it is the majority, so it's a lose/lose situation for those that think that there are just way too many "Latino" activities/events/contests etc here.
