I'm getting kind of overwhelmed at how expensive camps are getting just for an hour or two each day.... tennis camp is $150 for 1 1/2 hour a day. WHAT?! I kind of feel like I have to save up for summer. LOL

Anyways, please share your advice with this SA newbie some of your favorite places to go visit during the summer break, that is preferably cheap or free.

Here are some past threads with some suggestions....also check out OurKids San Antonio, there are usually ideas in there also. sacurrent.com sometimes has free kids' activities listed also.

Things to do with Children
Things to do with kids
Staycation
Things to do with kids?

Good luck! There are lots of things to do in SA...many of them free. Check out the theaters, too--I think it's the AMC theaters that have a free movie every week in the summer for the kids.

It's crazy right?? I know the some of the libraries do free movie nights (with drink & popcorn!) and the YMCAs too. Just check your branch online (obviously they won't be the most current movies but still a fun night). The McNay Art Museum has free admission on Thursday evenings and the first Sunday of each month. Barnes & Nobles has story times during the week (check your closest store online for days/times). As for any other stuff, gonna have to go in the pocket but some are cheaper than others! But, there is bowling (Bandera Super Bowl has coupons online!), The Zoo (memberships are reasonable and if your kids are like mine it's worth it, but regular admission is reasonable too), The Children's Museum in New Braunfels etc. Pick up an SA Kids Directory or Our Kids Magazine like someone else mentioned and you can find lots to do (found in the front of a lot of businesses).

The FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL is coming up soon, I can't say it's cheap, but it's cheaper than many Fiesta events.

We go most every year. There are tons of things for kids, and lots of free activities, stuff and food giveaways.

Not everyone's cup of tea, obviously, but many local churches will do "Vacation Bible School" during the summer, and it's almost always free. Lots of arts / crafts, games, activities, mixed with bible stories. You don't have to be a church member at all to participate... usually over half the participants will be from outside of regular church attenders.
