I am planning to visit San Antonio over Memorial Day weekend. I've never been there before and would like some suggestions for good taco places. I am looking for fast food places, not sit-down restaurants. I am particularly interested in puffy tacos, as this is something I have just discovered while searching this forum. Does anyone have any suggestions for good taco places in or around the downtown area?

Thanks in advance.

If you want puffy tacos you should go to a resturant, they should be eaten right away. However, you can get take out at moost any place. Don't forget to get breakfast tacos!

There are a number of chains including TACO CABANA that have drive thrus.

There are great Mexican resturants all over the city, most inexpensive. If you know what part of town you will be in, I'm sure folks could recommend some in your area.

There is a restaurant in the Riverwalk area, I'll have to look up the name of it.

Bobby Flay from the Food Network did a show from the patio there once; the owner cooked the Puffy Tacos oustide on a grill.

Trying to recall the name of the restaurant. Sadly, the matriarch of the family owners was murdered last year by a young neighbor boy.

Okay, found it... the restaurant is Los Barrios, the matriarch was Viola Barrios, and the TV program with Bobby Flay highlighted Diana Barrios......

Apparently they are amazing Puffy Tacos......

Taco Haven on S. Presa for the best breakfast tacos (homemade corn or flour tortillas are the best).

It's a restaurant but they do takeout.

Los Barrios is not on the riverwalk. They have a restaurant on Blanco South of Basse, and another on Redland Road north of 1604.

THe best Puffy Tacos downtown are at a place called Lulas on Travis Street. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. And yes they are better than Henrys and Los Barrios' puffy tacos.

The show took place at their Redland/1604 location. Los Barrios is decent but not that great. I prefer Henry's. Heres Los Barrios website: Welcome to La Hacienda de Los Barrios

It all tastes the same to me: meat, cheese, lettuce, tomatos.... Taco Cabana, or Taco whatever, when it comes to tacos the only real difference to me is quality of meat.
