You can cover a lot of territory here in 20 minutes (even at rush hour). 3 BR apartments run $800 to 1600+ depending on how nice of an area and what amenities are offered. More details will lead to a more specific answer.

The developments close to The Rim tend to be very upscale.

The exception would be some apartment complexes near UTSA that are primarily occupied by students. Those will be the closest inexpensive option. How do you feel about living near university students?

It would probably be more productive for you to tell us your price range for a rental and members can point you in specific directions to look.

If you'll be working a traditional daytime 8-5 workday, you will not be able to travel as far in 15-20 minutes if you live to the east of The Rim on 1604. That direction has heavy rush hour traffic and gets closer to gridlocked as you approach US 281. The other directions have plenty of traffic, but are less frequently gridlocked.

There are several apartment complexes near the Rim. One is being built right now, and it is supposed to be beautiful. I think the price range for that complex is going to be around $1200 for a 3 bedroom, maybe a little more, maybe less, since they're going to start leasing soon.

My friend lives near the Rim (northwest of it, but she has to exit the Rim exit to get to her house), and the school her kids go to is very good! I believe it is in the NISD area.

You will be looking in zipcodes 78249 inside Loop 1604 and 78023 outside Loop 1604 for good schools and easy access to The Rim. $1300 rent is very do-able for a 3/2/2 house with fenced yard in this area.

See www.NISD.net for your Northside Independent School District info on individual schools and boundary maps. San Antonio is very Family oriented; I am sure y'all will be very happy here! And coming from California, you will love the lower cost of living.
