What would you rate as the swankiest hotel in San Antonio? If you were to go all out and splurge where they had the best restaurants, amenities, etc, where would you go?

I'd probably go with the Watermark, for a small hotel, and the Westin for a large hotel, on the Riverwalk.

I think the Westin La Cantera is nicer than the Hyatt Hill Country, when it comes to resorts as opposed to hotels.

I am fond of the Valencia. Haven't visited Contessa or Watermark though.

Ah yeah, Hotel Valencia is pretty nice as well, but it can be noisy with the atrium and all that.

Yeah the Valencia is pretty nice. I'd like to spend some money at the Gunter.

Awesome suggestions everyone....has me busy with research. We will likely be spending our 10th anniversary in San Antonio (if we have not already moved there!) in September and I wanted to get some ideas ahead of time. Keep the ideas flowing...you all are great!

I just came back from the Westin. Beautiful hotel. I was in between the Contessa (which is right next door) or the Westin....chose the Westin because the Contessa got so-so reviews on Tripadvisor.com which I consider the bible when it comes to travel related info and reviews. Only thing I did not like about the Westin was the noise. We were on the top floor (15) facing the river and could STILL hear the buses accelerating and stopping on the street. I am a light sleeper and had to go to CVS on the riverwalk to get some earplugs. Another night they had a ticano music festival from 10am till 11pm at the Hilton and we could hear it clearly in our rooom on the 15th floor. And the Westin and Contessa are considered hotels on the quiet side of the riverwalk ! The best restaurant in terms of food, service and value has to be Bourdo's ! Amazing..we ate there 3 times. Reservations are a must on any night. Good luck and happy anniversary!
